Breaking: Bouchra Jarrar leaves Lanvin after only 16 months

After just two collections and 16 months at Lanvin, Bouchra Jarrar steps down from her position as artistic director at the French Maison. The official statement reads:

“Lanvin and Bouchra Jarrar have mutually decided to put an end to their collaboration. This decision is effective as of today. Madame Wang wishes to thank Bouchra Jarrar who since her arrival brought her talent to serve the company. Bouchra Jarrar thanks Madame Wang for her trust. She wishes most particularly to acknowledge the work of the teams with who she collaborated to express creativity and French know-how. Bouchra Jarrar will now concentrate on new projects.”

It was only last week that the esteemed couturier received one of France’s highest civilian honours and was made Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters. Jarrar’s arrival brought a contrast of svelte tailoring embellished by a bounty of feathers and fur but those accustomed to her predecessor’s impassioned draped silhouettes harboured mixed feelings. And despite shuttering her eponymous label to devote herself to taking the reigns at Paris’ oldest fashion house, Jarrar was unable to turn Lanvin’s eroding revenues around. News of this departure files itself under the unfavourable term Lanvin has experienced for the past three years.

What will follow the shocking end to Alber Elbaz’s 14-year tenure in 2015 and this brief partnership between Lanvin and Jarrar remains to be seen.
