The best of LFW AW19 day 2: Burberry and Peter Pilotto
Who: All eyes on creative director Riccardo Tisci as he presented his second collection for the British heritage brand. After his highly anticipated debut last season, we were on our toes in anticipation of this next drop.
The low-down: Entitled 'Tempest' showcasing "contrasting perspectives", the Autumn/Winter 2019 was a considerably tighter edit than the aforementioned debut. Tisci's vision for the future of Burberry is more apparent with athletic streetwear. Masculine silhouettes and masculine shouldered looks opened the show paving the way for the revamp. The feminine balance was seen through sporty yet flirty threads: the off-shouldered zip-up corset that slit open at the forearms and the v-neck jersey dress embellished with crystals on the hemline and sleeves for meant for the 21st century flapper girl.
Buro loves: The classic Burberry plaid rehashed into modern basics. For example, the puffer patchwork jacket in mixed fabrications in a multitude of hues and the beige fleece sweater trimmed with leopard print at the neckline was a right on trend.
Who: The men behind the brand Peter Pilotto and Christopher de Vos design every one of their fabrics. This season they delve into unchartered territory by experimenting and transforming tulle by way of pleats. An exciting venture as the light and airy fabric is one they'd never worked with... until now.
The low-down: Known for their exquisite prints and playful bursts of colour, Autumn/Winter 2019 did not disappoint. The opulence and grandeur were seen through decadent adornments. Ostrich feathers flocked a sequinned silk shirt and a plush velvet robe in warm orange. The pleated tulle experiment was transformed into a floor-length gown in delectable pastel shades cut with balloon sleeves that billowed. Added across the arms, bodice and skirt were lace trim in more pastels.
Buro loves: The sheer maximalism of it all, here's how to make an entrance! The prints, materials and embellishments were a visual delight and above all - timeless. Pilotto and de Vos successfully nailed the ethos of fashion, making clothes that you know you look and feel good in, and want to wear time and time again.
