New York Fashion Week AW16: Highlights of Day 1 and 2

New York Fashion Week AW16 day 1 and 2 gave us a cursory glance at the future of fashion shows, from the gradual transition to distinctive presentation formats to a largely multicultural sentiment present in collections.

The former came in Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 3, where the rapper slash “fashion designer” made his presentation’s tickets available to the public and Wes Gordon’s completely mobile show via Instagram videos (where 90s inspiration reigned). The latter however was rife in Sophie Theallet AW16—velvet jackets and luxe silk capelets gave the collection a boho vibe; and in Desigual with its signature colour-splattered and motif-abundant pieces, but this time we spotted turbans and patchwork skirts for an eclectic touch.

That said, we always love chic wearable looks that are at times teemed with statement accessories, such as Jason Wu’s slip dresses and fur collars paired with chunky pump-mules; Yigal Azrouël’s feminine lineup of jacquards, velvets and lace; and Gabriela Hearst‘s beautiful coats in tweed and wool.
