9 Things you need to know about Chanel Cruise 2019

From launching a space rocket to recreating the Eiffel Tower, you can count on Chanel for impressive show sets every season, and for Cruise 2019 it’s no different. For Cruise 2019, the brand brought a cruise liner to its usual location at the Grand Palais, which served as the perfect backdrop to its nautical-inspired collection. In an interview with The Guardian, its president of fashion, Bruno Pavlovsky mentioned their initial plan to take showgoers on an actual cruise proved impossible as it was difficult to find the perfect boat, so instead, they build a replica on their own.

Here are all the details you need to know about the Chanel Cruise 2019 show:

1.     The cruise liner, La Pausa, was named after Coco Chanel’s summer villa on the French Riviera.

2. The cruise liner is capable of holding 1,000 people and took two months to build. The 148-metre ship is complete with a piano bar and swimming pool.

3. Invites came in the form of cruise liner boarding passes, setting the tone of the show.

4. #FROW guests include its ambassadors Kristen Stewart and Lily-Rose Depp, and Margot Robbie who was announced as its new face back in March.

5. Gigi and Bella Hadid, Barbara Palvin and Stella Maxwell were some of the It-models who walked the show, to the sound of seagulls, fog horns and creaking ropes.

6. The nautical-themed line consists of 80 outfits, with sailor stripes and graphic prints being the mainstay of the collection. There were relaxed silhouettes in the form of a sweater-and-flared trousers combo, and also polished ensembles such as tweed skirt-suits. Evening dresses were embellished and came in figure-flaunting silhouettes, complete with fingerless gloves that match the colours of the accessories. Our favourite details are the round puffed shoulders and the rainbow sequins that peppered all over the waist and sleeves.

7. Accessories-wise, almost every look was worn with a beret and white tights. But the cutest of them all, are the lifesaver bags and rope pouches that were slung across the models’ shoulder, alongside its popular bags such as the Gabrielle Chanel and the Vanity Case.

8. Instead of his eight-year-old godson Hudson Kroenig, Captain Karl Lagerfeld took his bow with Chanel’s longtime fashion studio director Virginie Viard.

9. Gangplanks were lowered post-show, and guests proceeded to the after party on the hull of the liner, enjoying champagne, Negroni cocktails, seafood and truffle chips on deck.
