Milan Fashion Week SS18: Highlights of Day 2

Max Mara

Inspired by Milan’s urban living, Max Mara went with the classics for SS18 with its signature muted hues, but it’s the contemporary touches that made the collection that bit more interesting. For the first time ever, the brand is hopping on the monogram bandwagon, with a number of looks printed with the brand’s logo; it’s apparent that Max Mara is trying to cater to a younger crowd. Florals in the form of lavender motifs were also in the air, adding that breath of romantic femininity into the collection. What we loved most from the collection? The lean tailoring in organza that exuded subtle elegance, whether it’s in the form of a pantsuit or trenchcoat.

Fendi

With a colour palette of ocean blue, seafoam green, coral pink and sandy nude hues sent down the runway, we were immediately transported to the tropics. The focal prints of the season are the checked and florals prints, but it was the brand’s play of patterns, cuts and layers that brought the looks to a new level. The light and airy pieces—made from diaphanous fabrics—gave us a sense of ease as they swayed with every move down the runway, and they’re accented with sheer stockings (in clashing and matching prints) and heels combo serving top-to-toe fashion. Occasional leather coats (with cut-out shoulders) and fur jackets (spotted on Kendall Jenner) made their appearances in the collection, and the outerwear is what we’d opt to throw on on our plane ride to the Caribbean.

Prada

A continuation from its Spring 2018 menswear show, Prada turns to comic once again with a collection that is all about female empowerment, in a showspace filled with drawings from women cartoonists and manga artists. Comic strips were plastered on jackets and dresses, pulled together with punk-rock detailing—some brushed in paint, some with scrunched-up sleeves, and some adorned with studs. Comics aside, the tailoring of its outerwear was definitely the highlight—overcoats, jackets with embellished shoulders and raincoats helped to give the wonder women that style boost.

Moschino

The brand hinted at the ballerina theme by sending out satin ballet flats as an invitation, but in true Jeremy Scott fashion, you can always expect more. While the show did open with biker ballerinas dressed in cropped biker jackets, layered necklaces, fishnet leggings and thigh-high boots, there were also My Little Pony looks from the brand’s capsule collection of the season. From swimsuits to bomber jackets, the pieces are available for purchase on its website and selected boutiques starting from today. The show then transitioned into the most eye-catching part of the show—the eveningwear section where model Anna Cleveland sashayed in a tulip piece, doing a ‘he loves me, he loves me not’ by throwing petals into the crowd. Gigi Hadid wrapped up (pun intended) the show as a life-size flower bouquet, complete with a ribbon tied at the waist.
