“It explores the contrast between the romanticised notions of winter and wanderlust and the darker motifs found in old Norse folklore,” said Anya Hindmarch of her Autumn/Winter 2017 collection, and she set the tone for the collection with a runway set resembling a rocky mountain, bathed in lights of dusky pink, orange, purple and blue—the shades that also made up the palette that morning. Kurbits, a Swedish folk art style, played central motif of the collection, featuring heavily on jackets, coats and bags.
At Topshop Unique, the It-Brit girl is keeping her wardrobe versatile and ready for any occasion that may come her way, whether it be a rave party, weekend brunch with the girls or a walk at Hyde Park. A kaleidoscopic theme ran through the collection, comprising of streetwise slogan sweatshirts and denims, sweet floral prints and pastel silk tops, as well as diaphanous dresses that ooze sensual glamour. Silhouettes were kept fluid and easy-going, befitting of the nonchalant Brit cool attitude.
For Autumn/Winter 2017, Johnny Coca set out to put a new perspective on the British heritage codes that embody the Mulberry ethos. What transpired was a glorious number of checks in loud, boxy shapes, a series of crochet dresses with contrasting collars, and voluminous tiered dresses. But what really raised eyebrows at the show were the oversized quilted ponchos inspired by horse blankets—a nod to tradition that didn’t quite translate to wearability. On the bright side, we would take the bags that accompanied the looks in a heartbeat.
