All the breathtaking looks from Chanel Haute Couture Spring 2017

Inspired by the ambience within Mademoiselle Chanel’s Parisian flat, 31 rue Cambon, Karl Lagerfeld planted Art Deco influences to the setting of the show, from mirrors reflecting the majestic staircase that led up to the brand’s Haute Couture salons that amplified the depth of space, to smoky mirrored tiles engraved with Chanel’s iconic quilt motif. But femininity was the theme of the night—belts were cinched high to show off the waist, plunging necklines reigned, and the occasional tulip skirt to accentuate natural curves.

No Chanel collection is replete without tweed, and so Lagerfeld gave tweed an iridescent upgrade in the form of dress-coats and suits. The palette was predominantly white, silver, grey and black, while pops of colour were present in the form of pink, yellow and pastel green. But what stole the show was a plethora of glittery sheath dresses embroidered with faceted stones, sequin embellished lace, and feathery details. The drama was amped with a handful of sparkly, ankle-grazing gowns that were paired with marabou boleros and hemlines. Naturally, Chanel muse Lily-Rose Depp closed the show in a frothy ruffled bridal ball gown made of layers of pink organza—a scene-stealing confection that would make any ’80s-loving fan’s dreams come true.
