Who: You can always expect major star power at the Tom Ford show, and the celebrities in attendance this season include It-actors Ansel Elgort, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Joe Alwyn who all turned up impeccably dressed.

Where: As usual, the show was held at the Park Avenue Armory on the Upper East Side of New York City.

The low-down: While most fashion brands these days aim to produce the biggest and most talked about shows, this season, Tom Ford sent down a surprisingly subdued collection—especially compared to his crystal-filled runway with an array of streetwear-inspired looks last year. In an interview with WWD, the designer says, “In today’s world what do we want? Beautiful, soft colour; something with ease; something not aggressive, which is odd from me. I wanted beauty.” The collection started off with a series of colour-clashing looks that showcased Tom Ford’s eye for hues, before moving on to his signature androgynous suiting that everyone loves. Gigi Hadid, in particular, wowed the crowd in an all-red suit, made up of velvet blazer and satin trousers. Towards the end of the show, flowy jersey gowns were complete with thick chain details that added a dose of edge, before closing with a full silver look that had matching-hued chains drape across the décolletage.

Buro loves: The pantsuit in look 5 by day, before changing into the jersey gowns at night.

Ralph Lauren

Who: In a statement released by the brand, the 79-year-old designer says, “I wanted to create an intimate experience to share my vision in a more personal way,” which reflected in his choice of venue this season.

Where: Not one to shy away from new locations, (he held his AW17 show in his private garage in Bedford, and his 50th Anniversary show last season at Central Park), Ralph Lauren presented his SS19 collection at the new Ralph’s café on Madison Avenue. Held at 9.30am in the morning, guests were treated to baskets of freshly baked croissants, and sipped on coffee—Ralph’s Coffee, to be exact—while models walked down the spiral stairs in the brand’s latest designs.

The low-down: Kept in a colour palette of black, white and gold, Ralph Lauren’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection focuses on the purity of design, amped up with unexpected shapes and silhouettes. The opening look worn by Taylor Hill was a pair of exaggerated flared trousers contrasted with sharp tailoring, a crisp black shirt in look 2 which was worn with metallic crinkled track pants, and the next look featured Candice Swanepoel in a maxi blazer dress over matching white pants.  The result? An ultra-chic collection that will bring you from your job to post-work drinks effortlessly.

Buro loves: The fully sequinned cape worn by Anja Rubik (look 8), that reveals a high-shine satin gown under-just the right amount of utilitarian vibes injected into the otherwise soft and demure look.
