All the OTT looks you won’t want to miss—from the Spring 2019 Couture runways

Another season, another round of wow-inducing creations. As Paris Spring 2019 Haute Couture week come to a close, we dive into all the amazing looks spotted on the runways. At Armani Privé, the collection paid homage to Asia, with an abundance of oriental influences accompanied by Art Deco prints and silhouettes. Balmain‘s first-ever couture collection (under Olivier Rousteing) was a futuristic soiree—models strutted down the runway in ultra-structured shapes with oversized pearls adorning the wrists. The Grand Palais was transformed into Villa Chanel for the Chanel show, and even though Karl Lagerfeld was absent, the beautiful collection spoke for itself. Taking inspiration from his favourite 18^th century, the Marie Antoinette vibes were injected with some punk attitude in the form of David Bowie-like bouffants and kohl-rimmed eyes. Over at Dior, Maria Grazia Chiuri invited an all-female circus company, Mimbre, to the circus-themed show, performing acrobatic stunts while models walked under the big top in traditional circus-themed elements such as ruffles, ringmaster pants and acrobat headpieces that were all given that trendy update—they didn’t look like clowns, for sure.

Givenchy‘s Clare Waight Keller said that its Spring 2019 Couture collection was a stunning mix of “architecture, structure and just beauty”, where the fashion house’s classic glamour was given a one-up with latex material, and laser-cut diamond shaped capes that moved beautifully on the catwalk. As usual, you can expect Iris Van Herpen to deliver head-turning ensembles every time, and this season’s theme, ‘Shift Souls’, was all about the celestial cartography. While the latter is inspired by the galaxy, Jean Paul Gaultier dived into the deep sea, setting sail to Japan for his nautical themed line that resulted in a collection that’s the perfect balance between fluid and structured. One of the most talked about shows this season goes to Valentino, where Pierpaolo Piccioli showcased a series of more-is-more get-ups that remained modern—we’ve already spotted a number looks that will be red-carpet favourites.
