The Buro Edit: 8 Wardrobe essentials and how to elevate them

Trends come and go, but classic pieces last forever. The perfect white button-down shirt, the comfiest jeans, and a tailored blazer can never go wrong in your closet, and they can be worn for almost any and every occasion. The best part? There are endless ways to style them, and they can be mixed and matched to your heart’s content. That being said, if you’re bored of wearing the same staples (the same way) over and over again and are looking for new ways to amp them up, the Buro team has got your back. Ahead, we pick out eight closet essentials from Uniqlo and elevate them according to our style:

#1 Outerwear

The Buro Edit – outerwear

On Red: Cardigan, tank top, and shorts, all Uniqlo

On Joan: Blazer, shirt, and wide-leg trousers, all Uniqlo

The cardigan has been making a comeback as of late, but if you’re not too keen on the “old-lady staple”, trust us when we say that there are ways to give it a more youthful take. Take a style cue from Red who amped up the fun by juxtaposing the pink and orange hues, and pulled it all together with a pair of plain white Bermuda shorts.

On the other hand, regardless of the industry you work in, we’re sure you have a blazer in your wardrobe. The piece elevates the simplest of looks, and it gives us the confidence boost we’ll always need. To give her monochrome beige-on-beige look that pick-me-up, Joan threw on a white blazer for a dressy finish, and accessorise the outfit with similar tones.

Psst… These outerwear are made with the UV-blocking technology which can block up to 90 percent of the sun rays, which can be harmful not only to the skin on our face, but our body.

#2 Jeans

The Buro Edit – jeans

On Red: Denim jacket, striped T-shirt, and jeans, all Uniqlo

On Joan: Cardigan and jeans, both Uniqlo

This wardrobe staple needs no introduction. From skinny to wide-legged to boyfriend jeans, you name it, we’d wear it. Here, we highlight two of our favourite cuts that complement our heavier bottom. On Red, the wide-fit curved jeans that’s a new silhouette from Uniqlo this season, paired with a cropped denim jacket in the same wash, and a striped T-shirt for added interest. Joan also hopped on the cardigan bandwagon by opting for a thick cropped piece, and styled it off-the-shoulder for that extra allure.

#3 Sweaters

The Buro Edit – sweaters

On Red: Sweater and A-line denim skirt, both Uniqlo

On Joan: Sweaters and midi skirt, both Uniqlo

We can always count on sweaters to keep us cosy and comfortable; despite our warm and humid tropical weather, the piece is one of Joan’s most-loved fashion items—it can be styled up or down according to the fit. Here, she went full-on pastel with her colourful get-up that’s ideal for days off. Aside from that, here’s a confession: half-zip sweater is an underrated dad trend we love. To give it a more girly take, Red wore it with another wardrobe essential—the A-line midi skirt—and finished off with a pair of printed boots and beaded bag.

#4 Cigarette trousers

The Buro Edit – cigarette trousers

On Red: Oversized shirt, T-shirt, and cigarette trousers, all Uniqlo

On Joan: Knitted top and cigarette trousers, both Uniqlo

Uniqlo’s Smart Ezy Ankle Pants are undoubtedly one of our favourite pieces in-store thanks to its versatility. These cigarette trousers can be worn for brunch date with your girlfriends, a formal boardroom meeting and post-work drinks—you get the gist. To stay true to her style, Red played with colours by pairing her light blue pick-that comes with a slight flare this season—with an oversized yellow shirt with a T-shirt worn under, while Joan stayed in her comfort zone with an all-black ensemble that still makes a statement.
