Bridal Fashion Week Spring 2020: Stylish short dresses that are equally perfect for your wedding (and the after-party)

From the royal nuptials to Chiara Ferragni-Fedez and Priyanka Chopra-Nick Jonas‘ weddings, 2018 had some of the most high-profile weddings yet. This year, as the wedding season approaches, we’re taking some style cues from the recent New York Bridal Fashion Week for some new trends to note, specifically for the 2019 brides. Planning for your upcoming wedding, and need some gown inspo? If you’re looking for traditional long gowns, we’ve spotted a fair number of “naked” dresses that still have that sensual allure.

If you’re all for unconventional styles, and are not a fan of the floor-length dresses that weighs you down (literally), there’s a perfect style for you in the form of tea-length and mini dresses that allow you to transition smoothly for your after-party—get ready to dance the night away! The best part? Although the length limits the type of dress designs, trust us when we say there’ll be something for you regardless of your style. From simple fit-and-flare silhouette for the minimalist to OTT feather details that scream look-at-me like no other, here are six sub-trends you should take note of when you’re selecting the perfect LWD.

Fit-and-flare

Fit-and-flare silhouettes are fail-proof for two reasons: It’s the one dress style that flatters every figure, and it will never go out of style. If you’re thinking of passing your wedding dress down to your daughter in the future, look no further. The hem of the Justin Alexander dress in look 1 reminded us of a delicate flower petal, and look 3’s corseted number from Mira Zwillinger lends that bit of structure to the otherwise plain ensemble.

High-low

Want something that has all the qualities of a short and long dress (literally)? A high-low bridal gown is the one for you. Perfect for modern brides, the short-in-the-front and long-in-the-back silhouette is a practical yet beautiful choice for the brides. If you’re donning a covered-up look à la Suzanne Neville in look 1, the asymmetrical design is great to show off some skin, and the pair of gorgeous wedding shoes you’re wearing. Look 2’s get-up from Nicole is for those who’d like a bolder take.

Mini

Want to flaunt your toned pins on your big day? These thigh-grazing mini wedding dresses are made for you. We love how Reem Acra and Oscar de la Renta both stuck to the simple bandeau silhouette, but amped them up with eye-catching details such as an oversized bow or dramatic fringe that is also trending this season.

Off-shoulder

Think off-shoulders are too casual for your wedding? Think again. We’ve spotted an array of décolletage-flaunting designs that are alluring. Lela Rose‘s slightly casual silhouette was elevated with touches of shine in the form of brooches, while Martha Suarez‘s lace number is perfect for the dainty girls.

Feather

Aside from shiny sequins, nothing screams party like feather details that will sway and flow with your every move. Both Oscar de la Renta and Naeem Khan‘s designs exude glamour like no other, but the latter’s mini length radiates flapper girl vibes—in the best way possible.
