Ahead we round up the top bridal trends that'll rule weddings in 2022, alongside plenty of runway inspo for the stylish bride-to-be

Wedding bells on the horizon? As fashion month drew to a close, the biannual occurrence of New York Bridal Fashion Week ended last week with plenty of bridal trends that continue to disrupt traditions. We're talking versatile pieces that brides will want to wear again after the ceremony, across a range of styles that include princess ballgowns reinvented with a contemporary twist to minimal dresses that reflect the intimate gatherings and mini-ceremonies held during the pandemic.

Ahead, take a look at some of the biggest 2022 wedding dress trends gleaned from the latest bridal collections:

Corsets

Regencycore strikes again with plenty of boudoir-inspired silhouettes set to make their way down the aisle in the form of gowns with corset bodices and exposed boning. Designers proved that this old-world detailing can actually feel modern, introducing the construction under satin slip dresses to standalone tops fitted with dramatic bell sleeves.

Ruffles, ruffles, ruffles

Ruffles were everywhere to bring plenty of romance and drama for the special moment. From cascading ruffled silhouettes to layers and layers of all-over-tulle, you can't go wrong with this bridal-approved detail.

Statement sleeves

Designers didn't hold back when it came to sleeves this season. Detachable puffy sleeves, both long and short, transformed more minimalist silhouettes, and came attached to a matching cape at Dana Harel. Off-the-shoulder styles placed a spotlight on the clavicle, ranging from voluminous princess bell sleeves to oversized bows and cap-sleeved florals.

Cut-outs

The definitive trend of the year has also hit bridal fashion as cut-outs were embraced in the world of white wedding dresses. Whether they appeared as frontal keyhole accents or as side slits to feature an embroidered bodice, cut-outs elevated even the simplest white gowns with a touch of sexy elegance.

Bridal gloves

As they did on the ready-to-wear runways, gloves are also making a comeback in the bridal domain as plenty of collections accessorised their gowns with the nostalgic wedding detail. From delicately embroidered and crocheted pairs to elegant opera-length gloves in silk and even leather at Vera Wang, there's no shortage of options to choose from.
