Creative Director Francesco Risso was heavily inspired by traditional art forms for Spring/Summer 2019. “It started with the processes of the work in the studio, and thinking of it as a painter’s canvas, which keeps changing and modifying in the trials and mistakes—suddenly, that becomes the work itself”, he tells Vogue. The arty references were seen through gilded sculptural jewellery and draped “blank canvas”-like dresses but what caught our eye were the angular sunglasses. The dramatic triangular shape draws full attention—eyes up here. The shades were seen in sleek black, stark white, tortoiseshell and rose quartz, and are a step up from the traditional cat-eye with sharp, acute angles making up the body. Following in the wake of the mini sunglasses trend, is this the new shape for the season? We hope so.
