In the world of K-pop, the year-end is a busy time as idols release music just in time for the January award circuit and special collaborations during the festive period. Ahead, get caught up on the latest music drops and comeback news from your favourite artists.

 

Twice and Megan Thee Stallion have a winning Strategy

It’s the collaboration we didn’t see coming but love all the same! In honour of Twice’s 14th EP Strategy, the popular girl group teamed up with American rapper Megan Thee Stallion for their title track of the same name. On 6 December, the fun music video was unveiled, which showed the nine members clad in Y2K-inspired tracksuits and grooving alongside the Mamushi star. Stream Twice’s latest mini-album below.

 

Rosé unveils heartbreak album, rosie 

After months of anticipation, Rosé’s solo debut album, rosie is finally here! The full-length album features 12 songs, ranging from emotional pop ballads to catchy acoustic numbers. In the record, Rosé sings about the woes of heartbreak after revealing in interviews she was in a toxic relationship for two years. On 6 December, the album drop was followed by the music video of her lead single, toxic till the end. Further, the album has broken the record for the biggest K-pop solo debut of 2024 on Spotify, garnering over 28 million streams within the first 24 hours. Listen to rosie below!

 

Got7 and GFriend confirm January comebacks

It’s a good day to be a third-generation K-pop fan because iconic groups Got7 and GFriend—who dominated the mid-2010s with their music—are coming back! That’s right, Ahgases, you’ll be able to see Jay B, Jackson, Jinyoung, Mark, Yugyeom, and BamBam together again very soon. On 7 December, BamBam confirmed the news through a meme that said “Got7 is coming back on January 20th”, writing on X, “oh God finally I can say this out loud. It’s been a month!!” Got7’s leader Jay B also announced the news in his solo concert on the same night. This will mark Got7’s first comeback in almost three years.

Meanwhile, GFriend officially announced the date for their highly-anticipated comeback on 2 December. In celebration of the girl group’s 10th anniversary, the members will drop a pre-release track on 6 January before returning with a special album titled Season of Memories on 13 January 2025. This will be the first time members Sowon, SinB, Umji, Eunha, Yuju, and Yerin will appear on stage again after their disbandment in 2021. 

 

V croons about Christmas with jazzy numbers

BTS member V is putting us all in a wintery Christmas mood with his festive releases. Continuing his tradition of releasing cosy Christmas melodies, the Slow Dancing singer did not disappoint with his collaborations this year.

Featuring his signature deep timbre and velvety vocals, the artist showcases his love for jazz in Winter Ahead featuring ballad singer Park Hyo Shin and White Christmas, reviving a timeless holiday classic performed by Bing Crosby. 

 

The8 is mesmerising in Orbit

While The8 has released previously released solo works such as Hai Cheng and Side by Side, Stardust marks the Seventeen member’s first EP. His fluid movements and androgynous style come in full force in the title track, Orbit, a mesmerising afrobeat number that sees the idol singing in both Mandarin and English. Irene blooms Like A Flower in solo debut

After 10 years of performing as a member of Red Velvet, leader and vocalist Irene has finally debuted as a solo artist. On 26 November, the artist made her highly-anticipated solo debut with her first EP, Like A Flower, and its upbeat pop dance lead single of the same name.

Within the first week of its release, the song sold a total of 336,805 copies, making Irene the highest-selling female soloist under SM Entertainment. Her first contains eight songs—listen to it below!

 

 BigBang breaks the internet with MAMA 2024 performance

While fans may have their favourites, it’s a truth universally acknowledged that BigBang are the undisputed kings of K-pop. You simply can’t get more legendary than them—which is why the performance by members G-Dragon, Taeyang and Daesung at MAMA 2024 was something to behold! 

Performing their latest single, Home Sweet Home, and two of their iconic hits, Fantastic Baby and Bang Bang Bang, the trio turned the prestigious awards night into a full-blown concert in Japan. Marking his return to music after eight years, G-Dragon also performed his latest single, Power, and received the Music Visionary Award. Check out their performances in the videos above!
