After months of meticulous planning, the finale event of the BURO Impact Awards 2023 unfolded last Tuesday, the 5th of December, at Maristar, Starhill Kuala Lumpur. As the sun began to set, casting a warm glow across the city, the seafood bar and fashion lounge—with its blend of dark and smoky decadence and touches of futuristic lighting—mirrored the palpable excitement and drama of the event, creating a truly unforgettable night.

The BURO Impact Awards is more than just a celebration; it’s a tribute to the brilliant minds and the positive impact these selected individuals have made throughout the year. Alongside an esteemed panel of judges, which includes experts in their respective fields—actress Daiyan Trisha; fashion designer Kit Woo; entrepreneur and content creator Jane Chuck; restaurant critic and food expert Nicholas Ng; and environmentalist Dr Yasmin Rasyid—we have carefully chosen eight leading artists, creatives, changemakers, and tastemakers who have set the industry ablaze over the past year. Discover all the recipients here.

Despite taking place on a Tuesday night, the energy was high. Laughter, chatter and excitement filled the space as guests trickled into the event location. The dress code was metallics, and attendees arrived in their glossy and glittering best! Hosted by none other than Maggy Wang, the night saw a celebration of our eight winners, honoured with trophies and gifts from sponsors GHD, Champagne Telmont and Hermès Beauty.

Also, thanks to Champagne Telmont, flutes of bubbly circulated on trays while our distinguished guests, including musicians, Alyph, Sona One, DJ Cza, Airliftz, Lullaboy, Lil Asian Thiccie, along with notable names such as Dato’ Nicol Ann David, Terimunite and Tanestrran Chandran, Daiyan Trisha, Lisha Ho, Yaya Zahir, and more, graced the occasion with their presence and unwavering support, truly embracing the spirit of celebration for the night.

Our Artist of the Year, dressed in a dazzling metallic mini dress by Maje, serenaded guests in between the awards presentation. Her breathy yet upbeat performance of her songs—Birthday, Toast and Bodies—set a fun and uplifted mood that lasted throughout the event. Adding on to the musical experience of the night, DJ Beautiful Mistakes—comprising talented twins Felicia Lee and Fyrone Taylor—took to the booth to spin vibrant tech house tunes.

The Best Dressed Male and Female of the Night were also announced, adding another layer of exhilaration to the event. Model Roanne Woo stood out for her unconventional all-metal overcoat with a beaded metal headpiece. Meanwhile, our November cover star, Jonathan Charles, aka Jonny Vicious, came wearing a metallic blue jacket over a see-through netted top and skirt, truly embodying the bold essence of the theme. These two walked away with 3-day, 2-night stays at Sunway Resort Hotel with complimentary dinners at Black Tap Craft Burgers and Shakes.
