Oscars 2025: Full winners list and highlights
The best of cinema

The award season came to a dazzling finale on 3 March as cinema’s biggest stars came together for the 2025 Oscars ceremony. From breakout stars to Hollywood veterans vying for the top prizes, the Oscar race has been nothing short of scintillating as competition proved to be fierce if the precursor awards were anything to go by.
Alas, it was Sean Baker’s Anora which emerged the top winner of the night. After having a rocky start in the season from being shut out of the Golden Globes, the Cannes Palme d’Or winner about a sex worker who marries the son of a Russian ogliarch took home five awards, including Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay. Mikey Madison, who played the titular star, was named Best Actress in her first Oscar nomination at only 25 years old.
In the other acting categories, Adrien Brody won his second Best Actor award for his performance in The Brutalist. The film was the third most-awarded feature of the night with three golden statuettes, including Best Original Score and Best Cinematography. Zoe Saldaña ended her winning streak with a clean sweep in her Best Supporting Actress category for Emilia Pérez whilst Kieran Culkin took home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for A Real Pain.
The night also saw a lot of firsts. Flow took home the award for Best Animated Feature, making the indie feature the first-ever win for Latvia. Further, No Other Land, a film made by a Palestinian-Israeli collective about the destruction of the occupied West Bank’s Masafer Yatta, was named the Best Documentary Feature. Brazil’s I’m Still Here won Best International Film, marking the country’s first Oscar win.
Over in the crafts categories, Wicked and Dune: Part Two dominated as double winners. The former won Best Production Design and Paul Tazewell took home Best Costume Design as the first Black man to win in this category. The latter won Best Sound and Best Visual Effects. The Substance, the buzziest movie from the award circuit, only nabbed one Oscar in Best Makeup and Hairstyling.
Throughout the night, audiences were also treated to several memorable performances. Wicked’s Oscar-nominated stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande opened the show with riveting performances from the musical movie. Furthermore, Doja Cat, Raye, and Blackpink’s Lisa (with a special dance performance by Margaret Qualley) teamed up for a homage to the music of the James Bond franchise. Lastly, Queen Latifah led a rousing tribute to the late Quincy Jones.
