It’s not Hari Raya without Aidilfitri anthems, especially when we’re once again celebrating within the “bubble” of our own households. We can always count on familiar tunes from Saloma and Sudirman to raise our spirits. At a time when we can’t balik kampung, the rousing melody of Sudirman’s classic is tinged with an extra dose of nostalgia (thanks, Covid) but there’s also comfort in the familiar.
No matter our race or religion, we all know at least one or two Raya songs—the ones every shopping mall plays—but would you still recognise them when the lyrics are Google translated from Bahasa Malaysia to English?
