5 Things to know about MiTEC, the eye-catching new structure in KL
A state-of-the-art building
Located at Persiaran Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur, the newly launched Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MiTEC) is a sight to behold with its eye-catching, futuristic design. If you haven’t seen it, now is a good time for a visit—nine of the ongoing SEA Games events are contested at the venue: fencing, artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, boxing, indoor hockey, Muay Thai, table tennis, volleyball and weightlifting.
Whether you’ll be supporting our national athletes on location or from home, here are five things to know about MiTEC:
1. Developed by Naza TTDI Sdn Bhd, MiTEC is a public-private partnership with the government. It was built to accommodate the growing demands of the MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions) industry – the industry attracted 111,298 delegates to 153 events last year alone, generating RM1.03 billion in revenue.
2. It cost RM628 million to build.
3. The design is futuristic, yet it pays homage to our culture. The spheroid structure is an artistic interpretation of a rubber seed, a nod to the rubber industry’s contribution to our country’s economic growth, while the pattern on the façade is inspired by the songket.
4. Now Malaysia’s largest exhibition centre with 1 million square feet of exhibition space, it consists of 11 exhibition halls, one multi-purpose hall, three media centres, 10 meeting rooms and more. It can accommodate up to 47,700 visitors in theatre style seating, and 28,300 guests in a banquet arrangement.
5. It houses the largest pillar-less exhibition hall in Malaysia, which is equivalent to two football fields.
