Lupita Nyong’O’s most experimental makeup looks from the ‘Us’ premieres so far

Trust Lupita Nyong’O to never back down from a tongue-wagging makeup look or two. The beauty chameleon has been making headlines for her experimental hair and makeup looks as of late, traversing cities for her latest horror movie premiere, Us. If there’s any indication that the new flick is worth a hair-raising cinematic experience, her head-turning beauty moments might just be it.

The first statement she made was earlier this month at the 2019 SXSW Conference And Festival, where she wore a futuristic look comprising metal duckbill clips over her shorn tresses and a stroke of red across her eyes and nose bridge. Makeup artist Nick Barose cited “fierce 80s music videos” for the look, using shades of red, gold and coral with a dash of vivid red lipstick to create the warrior-woman-like effect. She then worked a monochromatic look at the movie premiere in New York City, with neon pink and black graphic eye teemed with pink brows that echoed the bad-as* sentiment of her ensemble (that spiked Balmain blazer though!).

A few days later, she upped the ante with coloured contact lenses in the same crimson hue as her sequin outfit. As if the look didn’t scream vampy enough, she kept the rest of her makeup look ultra-noir—from her glossy lip to exaggerated smokey eye. But the icing that topped the cake this week was definitely her hot pink look just yesterday at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Just when we thought that vibrant lippie couldn’t steal anymore of the limelight, her contact lenses had a spookier upgrade in an eerie yellow hue. The look was then completed with a graphic super-short one-sided bob.

Which was your favourite too-bold-for-words look from Lupita?
