Chic styling ideas for short hair: The tousled lob

The second instalment of our Chic Styling Ideas For Short Hair tutorial series is made for anyone who’s vying for a five-minute hairdo without requiring a lot of effort or product. If you’ve watched our first video (this elegant bob is perfect for any occasion), you might already glean the purpose behind our hair tutorial series: short hair styling looks don’t have to be basic.

Says the girl who got a fresh new bob over the weekend, that is. Many of us out there fear going for the chop—growing out a shorn ‘do is right up there on our least favourite things to do, if we have to be honest. But if 2019’s It-hair trend is anything to go by, the shoulder/chin-grazing length is here to stay, and we’re determined to tackle it, one hairdo/tutorial at a time.

This time around, Buro’s deputy editor Gwen Ong is looking for a quick spruce up for her lob, and she demonstrates that you, too, can get out the door on busy mornings with hair looking this good.

Steps:

1. Spritz volumising spray allover, from the roots to the ends, then blow dry for added volume.

2. Part the hair to the side, then tousle hair with fingers for an intentionally messy, styled effect.

3. Spritz a liberal amount of hairspray on top to retain the volume.

5. Fasten your favourite hair slide/accessory to one side.

Tip:

Flip hair upside down while blow drying for more volume—this works wonder if you have flat, thin hair or curly/permed ends.
