The full breakdown on your favourite hair looks from the 2024 Grammy Awards

The 66th annual Academy Awards have been and gone, but some looks that graced the red carpet remain in our minds, rent-free. From Miley Cyrus’ now-iconic Texas-style volume to Olivia Rodrigo’s gorgeous, sleek waves, it was a night of unparalleled glamour.

Ahead, we get into the details behind the hair looks we saw on the red carpet from the sources themselves:

HOW TO GET MILEY CYRUS’ SHEER VOLUME

Miley Cyrus channelled ’80s realness for her Grammy’s look with this larger-than-life root pump. “This year we decided we wanted something dry and bigger, more fuller hair, but sexy and tousled and touchable,” says her hairstylist Bob Recine on the inspiration for the look. All we can say is: Mission accomplished!

Get the look:

  1. Recine begins by adding two products to damp hair: the Nexxus Epic Shine Anti-Humidity Spray and the Nexxus Prep and Protect Head Defense Spray. He applies it section by section, from root to tip. The first product prevents moisture and humidity from changing the end result while the second works to condition and protect Cyrus’ hair from high heat.
  2. He then blow-dries each section with a medium round brush, setting with the Nexxus XXL Volume Hairspray after each section.
  3. Then, he softly teases the roots, again applying the hairspray for hold before adding a few Velcro rollers on the top of Cyrus’ crown for extra bounce.
  4. To finish the look, Recine applies a few drops of Nexxus Repair and Nourish Hair Oil to add some shine to the look and keep Cyrus’ hair soft and healthy.

Note: Nexxus is unfortunately not available to shop in Malaysia yet.

Olivia’s classic look came courtesy of hairstylist Clayton Hawkins. “For Olivia’s Grammys glam, we wanted to do something classic that would stand the test of time,” explains Hawkins on the look’s inspiration. “Olivia is known for her long cascading waves, but we just wanted to amp it up in an old Hollywood direction.”

Get the look

  1. Hawkins began by applying a generous amount of volumising mousse to Rodrigo’s wet hair, specifically in the roots.
  2. Then, he gave the hair a thorough blowdry with the Dyson Supersonic™ hair dryer Professional Edition, using the professional styling concentrator attachment and setting the heat and airflow settings to medium.
  3. Once the hair was fully dry and smooth, Hawkins then used the Dyson Airwrap™Multi-styler with the 1.2-inch Airwrap™ long barrel attachment on medium heat and airflow settings to blowout and curl Olivia’s mohawk section for added volume.
  4. He then set the hair in a velcro roller going away from the face.
  5. For that Hollywood bounce, Hawkins then waved Rodrigo’s hair with the Dyson Corrale™ hair styler straightener on the medium heat setting. He waved her hair in a uniform formation going away from the face. setting with extra hold hairspray after each section had been completed.
  6. When the entire head was waved, Hawkins then let down the velcro roller and brushed out the hair with a wide-toothed comb. His best tip for Old Hollywood waves is to keep brushing until he hair is uniform.
  7. Finally, Hawkins ditched Rodrigo’s signature centre part for a more glamorous side part before setting the hair again with hairspray.

HOW TO GET SZA’S SLEEK, STRAIGHT LENGTHS

A post shared by SZA (@sza)

SZA’s sleek, straight lengths were the perfect accessory to her look. The perfectly blended lace on her wig and the inky black colour added exactly the right amount of drama—and it’s all thanks to hairstylist Devante Turnbull.

Get the look:

  1. Before anything else, the wig had to be coloured, so Turnbull used the Schwarzkopf Keratin Color in Midnight Black to colour the hair.
  2. After a fresh flat braid down, Devanté applied a marble-sized amount of wig glue to SZA’s clean, dry hairline. After allowing the product a couple of minutes to get tacky, he repeated this process one more time, following up with the blow dryer on cool.
  3. Then, Turnbull pressed the lace down into the glue, allowing it to dry clear before securing and melting the lace with the Got2b Glued Blasting Freeze Spray.
  4. To prep the hair to style, Devante used the Dyson Airstrait™ Straightener on high heat and airflow settings to dry and stretch the hair.
  5. Next, Devante used the Dyson Corrale™ hair styler straightener on the high heat setting to silk out the hair for a sleek straight look.
  6. To further seal in the look he used edge gel paired with the Dyson Supersonic™ hair dryer Professional Edition and its flyway attachment on medium heat and airflow settings to push flyaways out of sight for a smooth, shiny finish.

A post shared by Coco Jones (@cocojones)

Coco Jones stunned on the red carpet, looking every bit the part of Grammy Winner. Her hair was pulled up into a flawless tousled messy bun, which was the perfect match for her sequinned, plunge-neck dress. “This classic hairstyle adds a touch of refined grace, balancing the sparkling allure of her dress with a neat, uncluttered look that keeps all eyes on her radiant presence,” says hairstylist Ashanti Lation.

GET THE LOOK

  1. First, wash and condition the hair for a clean and fresh canvas.
  2. Next, detangle the hair before applying a hair primer to prep and protect the hair from heat styling.
  3. Lation used the Dyson Airwrap™Multi-styler at high heat and airflow settings with the soft smoothing brush attachment to blow dry Jones’ hair thoroughly.
  4. Then, Jones’ hair was pulled back into a bun and adjusted until Lation had her desired shape.
  5. Once the bun was constructed, Lation then used the Dyson Airwrap™Multi-styler at medium heat and airflow settings using the 0.8-inch Airwrap™ barrel attachment to create and curl the face-framing fringe pieces.
  6. Finally, Lation used the L’Oreal Paris’ Elnett Satin Extra Strong Hold Hair Spray to keep everything in place all night long!
