Get a personalised serum with your name on it from Kiehl’s

A serum is a must-have in most skincare routine today as we start to understand its power in delivering active ingredients to our skin. Thanks to its smaller molecules and high concentration of potent goodness, a serum is great for targeting specific skin concerns such as fine lines and dull complexion.

Based on this knowledge, Kiehl’s started offering its Apothecary Preparations in 2016 in New York – it’s a personalised service that concocts a potent blend of serum with skincare concentrates to help address each person’s unique skin concerns.

Now Malaysians can also get in on the bespoke service, which involves a one-to-one consultation and custom facial concentrates. Your personalisation also comes complete with a label with your name on the bottle and box.

How does it work?

The Apothecary Preparations service starts with a diagnosis conducted by a Kiehl’s Customer Representative. Using a dermatologist-inspired Skin Atlas, you will be guided through an in-depth discussion to help identify your skin conditions and concerns.

This is followed by a prescription of two skin-specified Targeted Complexes that is to be activated with the Kiehl’s Skin Strengthening Concentrate base later. So, when you’re ready to use your serum, you just need to mix both the base and the selected complexes together.

What goes in the Apothecary Preparations?

For each customised serum, the facial concentrate comprised three distinctive parts, which includes the base—Kiehl’s Skin Strengthening Concentrate and two individually selected Targeted Complexes. FYI, there are five concentrates available to target two of your biggest concerns such as redness, wrinkles, rough texture, large pores and dullness. We break down the key ingredients in each for you below:

THE BASE

Kiehl’s Skin Strengthening Concentrate has a 35 percent concentration of Squalane and a 20 percent of Skin Lipid Complex. Squalane helps protect skin’s barrier, maintain its moisture while soften and smooth the skin without irritation. Skin Lipid Complex supports the skin with unsaturated fatty acids and keeps it hydrated and stronger.

THE 5 COMPLEXES

Each Kiehl’s Targeted Complex is formulated with key ingredients that are selected for their efficacy and lipo-soluble nature. So each is potent for specific skin concern.

Wrinkle Reducing Complex contains Vitamin A (retinol) that is known to increase skin density and pro-retinol (Vitamin A palmitate) that helps fight skin ageing and diminish the appearance of wrinkles.

Texture Refining Complex has a Vitamin F blend to help maintain barrier protection and proper skin hydration, as well as LHA (Lipohydroxy Acid), which is a derivative of salicylic acid to target the protein bonds between dead skin cells and slough them off at a faster rate.

Visible Redness Neutralizing Complex includes sunflower seed oil extract that is rich in essential fatty acids to help reduce skin redness and dryness. It also has Vitamin E to prevent the formation of pro-redness molecules through its antioxidant properties.

Pore Minimizing Complex incorporates Samphira Oil that is known to reduce the appearance of sebum on skin. It also contains Salicylic Acid that acts as a mild skin exfoliator, removing excess sebum and dead skin cells as well as reducing the appearance of pores.

Brightening Complex features oil-soluble Vitamin C Ester that is reportedly good for reducing UV-induced pigmentation and it has antioxidant properties to help skin defend against environment aggressors. While the scotch pine extract is known to promote skin brightness.
