Move over, clean girls—rockstar girlfriends are dominating the Emmys 2024 red carpet

Bold, vampy lips, heavy lashes, and messy smoky eyes—the 2024 Emmy Awards red carpet proves that full glam is back in all the best ways!
Awards season is back, baby! We kicked off the season with the Golden Globes just last week, but if we’re honest, that red carpet was kind of a snoozefest. Everyone and their best friend turned up in some iteration of a bob and “your face but better” makeup. Now, don’t get us wrong—the stars looked fabulous, but we have to admit that we wanted a little more drama for the red carpet. You see, based on our calculations, 2016 is back for 2024, so we were hoping for more full glam through a modern lens.

That said, while the Golden Globes did not deliver, the Emmy Awards certainly did. On the red carpet, we saw glam grunge take over. From Jennifer Coolidge to Aubrey Plaza and more, here’s our recap of the 2024 Emmys red carpet beauty highlights:

To kick us off on a strong note, let’s begin with Aubrey Plaza’s look. The White Lotus star sports the bold lip/XXL Lash combo beautifully but pairs it with a girly half-updo to add some softness to the stark look.

We love the slightly messy, undone movement in her hair—it’s still put together, but gives the overall beauty beat an edge, especially in contrast to her statement dress.
Plaza’s co-star Jennifer Coolidge puts a more polished, retro spin on the rocker chic look, opting to pair her heavy lashes and smoky eye combo with a nude-peach lip and an even more voluminous beehive updo. Makeup artist Hung Vanngo explains that the look was chosen to complement the peach accents on the actress’ patterned lace gown.

We love that Coolidge is rocking Pantone’s 2024 Colour of the Year on her lips and cheeks. The “Peach Fuzz” blusher and lippy combo balances out the heaviness of her eye makeup and adds a youthful glow to the look.
On the other hand, Selena Gomez takes the opposite route to Coolidge and Plaza altogether, opting to pull her hair back into a sleek updo. Her makeup also leans into the darker elements of the aesthetic with a full lash and a deep plum lip.

According to Vanngo, this lip combo is none other than Rare Beauty’s lip liner and lipsticks in shades Strong and Devoted. For an extra bit of pizzaz, Gomez also pairs the vampy lip with a matching plum manicure—a nice touch to tie the whole look together.
Jenna Ortega goes more glam than grunge, opting to pair her messy, glittery smoky eye with a blush lip and perfectly sleek waves.

Suki Waterhouse also follows suit, nailing the part of ’70s rock star. However, instead of being perfectly polished like Ortega, Waterhouse wears her waves tousled and undone. And, instead of a more natural blush for the lip, Waterhouse adds a pop of bright pink to her pout.
Finally, to wrap it all up, Laverne Cox embodies the rockstar look in her entirety. From her high, bleach-blonde ponytail to her rhinestone-embellished eye, she’s a vision. Not to mention, the gorgeous, sculptural Mugler couture gown she wore to the event ties it all together beautifully!
