SK-II launches ‘The VS Series’, an animated anthology

Fun fact: SK-II (yes, that SK-II) has a new film studio division, SK-II Studio, and it has a groundbreaking animated anthology series in tow for viewers. The ‘VS’ Series features some of the world’s top Olympic athletes, including gymnast Simone Biles, swimmer Liu Xiang, table tennis player Ishikawa Kasumi, badminton duo and Olympic gold medalists Ayaka Takahashi and Misaki Matsutomo, surfer Mahina Maeda, and Japan volleyball player Hinotori Nippon.

The inspiring, first-of-its-kind series is comprised of a collection of six films based on the authentic female experiences of each athlete, exploring the societal pressures put on women and how they can be overcome. Each pressure is stylised as a ‘kaiju‘ (translates to “strange beast” in Japanese) and the athletes will set out to defeat their individual beast.

The films feature the works of global world-class content creators from award-winning animation studios such as Imaginary Forces, Passion Pictures, Platige Image and C3, as well as original soundtracks penned by singers like John Legend and Lexie Liu.

PS: In conjunction with the release of The ‘VS’ Series, the brand has a virtual city—SK-II CITY—where you can watch all six films in the anthology and access exclusive behind-the-scenes content!

Guerlain commits to protecting the bees like never before

World Bee Day (20th May) may have come and gone, but the fight to preserve our pollinators is ever ongoing. Currently, around 75 per cent of cultivated plants and 90 per cent of wild flowering plants are dependent on pollinators, but there is an issue—the bees are disappearing. With the annual honeybee mortality rate at 30 per cent, our biodiversity is being threatened, and we need to act fast.

That is why programmes such as the UNESCO Women for Bees programme, the French Observatory of Apidology (OFA), and the Guerlain For Bees Conservation Programme are so important. Luxury beauty house Guerlain, in particular, has been a long-standing supporter in bee conservation, with the bee being a key inspiration behind most of their best-selling products.

In light of World Bee Day and International Day for Biological Diversity, which took place on the 20th of May and the 22nd of May respectively, the House donated 20 per cent of its worldwide sales in these two days, as well as 20 euros for every repost of its World Bee Day Instagram image featuring the hashtags #Guerlain, #WorldBeeDay, and #GuerlainForBees.

The brand’s muse, Angelina Jolie, showed her support for bee conservation with a poignant campaign by National Geographic and Guerlain.
