Chinese New Year 2026: 8 Malaysian Brands to Check Out For Festive Outfits

Malaysian designers are turning heritage into style this Chinese New Year. Some look beyond borders, drawing inspiration from Ho Chi Minh City’s bustling streets and the glamour of Hong Kong cinema. Others explore local culture through playful and thoughtful interpretations. Ahead, eight collections to shop before the festivities begin.

Behati starts the year strong with its Chǎm collection, where Vietnamese heritage meets Southeast Asian flair. Áo dài are detailed with Parang batik, while sbai appear in checked patterns reminiscent of kain pelikat. Oversized silhouettes remain a signature, appearing in voluminous qipao rendered in floral Chinese brocade, and in vibrant magua jackets accented with oversized, hand-tied pankou buttons.

Innai Red’s Golden Petals reimagines the yellow Chinese umbrella into a collection steeped in light, luck, and elegance. Soft pleats and structured shapes reflect its curved silhouette, while a sunlit palette complements hand-dyed plumage, tassel blooms, oriental knots, beaded trims, and embellished frog buttons. Beyond the intricate details, the collection’s charm lies in its versatility, with pieces perfect for styling and layering in countless ways.

Fiziwoo’s dual collection pays homage to Hong Kong’s golden era. The Mui collection channels Anita Mui’s fearless charisma through sculpted qipao silhouettes, confident colour, and soft draping. Meanwhile, the Lau collection marks Woobrothers’ debut, featuring brocades, silk-lined samfu forms, and clean tailoring that evoke an understated masculinity inspired by Andy Lau.

Those interested in Nyonya culture will find much to admire in Fern’s Peranakan Series. The collection draws from visual cues closely tied to the culture, from patterned ceramic tiles and decorative architecture to its storied culinary artistry. Carefully crafted and hand-painted, each design brings these traditional motifs to life through intricate batik patterns. The kebayas are given a modern twist with scalloped detailing, puffed sleeves, and, in some designs, paired with chinos rather than the classic batik skirt.

Anaabu serves a slice of nostalgia with Isi-Isi, transforming local culinary favourites into festive wear. Each design pays tribute to the delicacies we grew up with, from the Dumpling Bubble Top with a neckline mimicking delicate folds, to Mooncake pencil skirts with scalloped hems inspired by traditional moulds. Colours tell their own story too, from the Pulut Tang Suit in black and pastel blue—reminiscent of Pulut Hitam and Pulut Tai Tai—to the Chinese Tea Vest in Oolong yellow.

Rizman Ruzaini

The Scion of Saigon is Rizman Ruzaini’s tribute to Ho Chi Minh City. Orchid motifs bloom as sculptural flourishes on fitted silhouettes, while soft textures ripple like the city’s layered streets. Look closer to find bows hinting at feminine strength, pleats folding like delicate fans, and metallic accents catching the light like Saigon at dusk, giving the collection its shimmering energy.

Maglifestyle’s latest collection draws inspiration from cherry blossoms in bloom, celebrating the fleeting joys of spring. Rendered in a soft pastel palette, it explores modern femininity through cocoon shapes, subtly cinched waists, and delicate botanical motifs. Some of the key pieces are a pink-toned jacquard top and dress, alongside a two-toned strapless number paired with a matching fringed cape.
