Pop Culture Catch-Up: Cardi B files for divorce, Kanye West’s latest Twitter explosion and more

Hello, pop culture vultures! Here’s another round-up of the latest news in the entertainment circle you might have missed:

Offset was unfaithful, Cardi B tried and now she is done

After three years of marriage and a baby girl named Kulture, Cardi B has filed for divorce from Offset on 14 September at Fulton County, Georgia. The couple had a rocky marriage due to Offset’s cheating—allegations that date back to 2019.

Offset explained in a 2019 interview on The Breakfast Club, “Not on the television though, real behind the scenes, getting to know each other, getting to know who you’re with and appreciate them all the way around. Because that one mistake made me appreciate her.”

The WAP rapper has decided that she’s had enough as more girls have come forth claiming to have had relations with her husband. She now wants to set a good example for her daughter and other young ladies.

A source told E! News, “Cardi does not trust Offset. She’s really tried for the last two years and has tried to forgive him. It’s been hard for her since the last cheating scandal and there have been rumours of him being unfaithful again.” In the court documents obtained by E! News, they state that the marriage is “irretrievably broken” and that “there are no prospects for a reconciliation.”

Cardi B has since filed for split custody and child support.

Kanye West went on another Twitter rant and this time, he is peeing on a Grammy

Kanye West has taken to Twitter yet again—but this time, he is on a mission to free all artists. On 16 September, the 43-year-old rapper posted a series of tweets about music ownership and recording contracts before posting a video of him seemingly peeing on one of his 21 Grammy trophies.

West believes that the music industry alongside the National Basketball Association (NBA) are “modern-day slave ships”. He feels that the contracts that artists are objected to today are wrong and the masters should belong to the artist themselves. Kanye even posted all of his 10 contracts with Universal, stating: “I need every lawyer in the world to look at these.” He also mentioned in a tweet that he will no longer make music until he is released from his contract with Sony and Universal.

Stray Kids has released their new album, In Life

JYP Entertainment’s Stray Kids has dropped their newest album, In Life, earlier this week featuring the title track ‘Back Door’. The boys simply could not wait to release the single as they felt this song will receive a bigger positive response from their beloved fans than their previous single, ‘God’s Menu’. The music video brings us a colourful performance from the boys and marries perfectly with the feel of the song.

14 Female artists have come together to create ‘Heal’

The all-female Southeast Asian collaboration track ‘Heal’ was released on 12 September. The single is a joint effort with an objective to evoke hope and unity within Malaysians (and the world) during these unprecedented times. All proceeds will go to the ABS-CBN Foundation’s Pantawid ng Pag-ibig programme to help families heavily affected by COVID-19.

The song features Dolla, Haneri, Haven, Jayda, Jona, Kyla, KZ, Lesha, Moira Dela Torre, Rinni Wulandari, Shalma Eliana, Valentina Ploy, Xela, and Yura Yunita. It is now available on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, JOOX, and Youtube.
