The opening of Bally’s Ginza flagship store marks the start of a new chapter for the Swiss luxury brand in Japan
The Ginza district, Tokyo's centre of luxury, boasts a harmonious architectural blend of the new and old. It seemed only apt then, that the Bally flagship store finds home at the new Tokyu Plaza building, which is considered the gate of Ginza. Inspired by a 1921 Bally store designed by pioneer Modernist architect Marcel Breuer, David Chipperfield Architects created a bold façade of brass aluminum and glass which runs the width of the store and merges into the glitzy Tokyu Plaza building—paying homage to the Swiss luxury brand's past while remaining distinctly modern.
Occupying 845-square-metres of space over two floors, the Bally Ginza flagship store's ground floor is dedicated to men's and women's accessories and ready-to-wear collections. It also features a Gentleman's Corner, going the extra mile in offering a unique experience to customers with Made to Order, Made to Colour and Shoe Care services. Meanwhile, the second floor houses a VIP room and an event space. In conjunction with the store's opening, the event space is now hosting the 'Bally Untold - Part 1: 1851-1951' exhibition until May 8—itis held outside of Switzerland for the first time, and takes the viewer through 100 years of Bally history.
