NYFW SS16: Maiyet

For Declan Kearney’s second outing as Creative Director of Maiyet, he cited the boundless spirit of female explorers as inspiration—think Amelia Earhart and NASA’s Katherine Johnson. This is reflected in the utilitarian-influenced collection that went down the runway.

The presentation finds casual elegance in simplicity with neutral tones dominating the catwalk, sporadically making way for refreshing pops of silver, gold and deep orange.

Light layering took its place in the collection with macramé scarves, vests, aviator jackets and knit sweaters, but the main stars were the slip dresses that closed the show—burnout velvet numbers that made a refined, effortless statement—summing up the collection perfectly.
