Those well-versed in the world of watches can easily identify Franck Muller by its unmistakable curved shape, exquisite watch face, and intricate complications. With Watches and Wonders 2024 currently underway, our attention is drawn to one of the brand’s iconic models: the Long Island case, initially introduced in 2000 as a three-hand timepiece with gentle curves and elegantly arched numerals, paying homage to the Art Deco era. Loved by watch collectors worldwide, it has remained a sought-after model after all these years.
This month, Franck Muller introduces three new iterations, each featuring an additional inner case in pine green. The new Long Island Evolution collection is complemented by luxurious alligator leather straps in matte black with contrast stitching in the same pine green colour. Long Island Evolution Master Jumper
This year, Franck Muller introduces a groundbreaking triple-jumping complication featuring numerical displays for hours, minutes, and date functions. While triple-jumping displays may not be entirely new, this design is truly exceptional. It showcases three vertical numerical windows aligned in a column along the centre of the watch case. The hours are displayed at the top, minutes in the middle, and the date at the six o’clock position. Furthermore, an inner sapphire crystal has been integrated at the inner bezel level, adding a three-dimensional depth to the timepiece—a first for Franck Muller.
Long Island Evolution Giga Tourbillon
Introducing Franck Muller’s Giga Tourbillon movement in this Long Island iteration, boasting a 20mm cage and an all-black treatment that perfectly complements the titanium case. Two Super-LumiNova-filled hands display the hours and minutes, while the oversized tourbillon cage on the lower facade acts as a running seconds counter. It occupies over half of the movement, supported by a three-pointed bridge. This bridge design is echoed in the barrel bridges, housing a total of four mainsprings to provide an ample four-day power reserve.
Long Island Evolution 7 Days
As a final touch, the three-hand model is introduced, equipped with Franck Muller’s hand-wound FM 1745 calibre in a fully skeletonised design, allowing for maximum visibility of the movement through the sapphire crystal. Additionally, the gear train and winding gears are partially revealed, offering further insight into the watch’s mechanics through the case back. Large luminous Arabic hour numerals ensure clear time reading above the movement. This robust timepiece boasts a seven-day power reserve, powered by a precise oscillator operating at a steady 18,000vph.
