Chopard unveils its 2016 Red Carpet Collection – and it’s a sight to behold

Chopard’s Red Carpet collection for Cannes Film Festival is a special one to look out for this year, as 2016 marks the 60th anniversary of the festival. Inspired by the grace and voluptuous charm of women, the collection features flowing open worked designs based on rounded shapes with lacework. The main focus of the collection is the necklace—a classic piece of jewellery that draws attention to the delicate lines of a décolletage. An outstanding creation includes a tie-necklace composed of five rows of emerald beads hemmed with sapphires, rubellites, tsavorites, topazes and amethysts, with a brilliant white opal in the middle.

Another interesting detail about this collection is the use of the solid yet incredibly lightweight titanium that is shaped in fanciful and daring ways and coloured in a range of hues. This innovative material has the ability of enhancing the beauty of gemstones it holds, demonstrated by paisley motif inspired earrings set with cabochon-cut sapphires, topazes and blue and orange sapphires.

The Green Carpet capsule collection that’s also unveiled within the Red Carpet collection introduces coloured stones this year—a noteworthy development guided by Artistic Director and Co-President of Chopard, Caroline Scheufele resulting in a unique partnership with the Gemfields group, a global leader in the mining of coloured stones. A highlight of the partnership sees that emeralds from Zambia will be fully validated by Eco-Age, a brand consultancy specializing in sustainable solutions, through its Green Carpet Challenge (GCC) Principles of Sustainable Excellence. This move marks the first time that Chopard has included responsible coloured gemstones in its Green Carpet Collection—paving the way for 100% ethical and traceable creations associating emeralds, diamonds from an RJC certified diamond trader and Fairmined 18-carat white gold.
