Franck Muller unveils vibrant new Vanguard Crazy Hours collection at WPHH 2019

While all eyes are on the ongoing Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie Genève (SIHH), there is another watch fair that is getting its fair share of attention just north of the city. Finding home at the picturesque Grand Malagny estate in Genthod, the World Presentation of Haute Horlogerie (WPHH) was established by Franck Muller itself, a move that falls perfectly in line with its status as an independent brand.

This year’s edition turned out to be a colourful affair as Franck Muller unveiled the Vanguard Crazy Hours, a vivid new collection that combines the watchmaker’s iconic complication with one of his signature cases.

A dial of brushed stainless steel encased in the bold silhouette renders it futuristic, while eye-catching accents in blue, red, green or orange inject a youthful touch, living up to the eccentricity of the jumping hour complication. For the uninitiated, the hour numerals may look disorderly at first glance, take a closer look and you’ll see that each number is placed at an approximately 120-degree arc away from its preceding number. This model bears a larger version of the tonneau Vanguard case, standing at a sizable 44mm by 53.7mm.

If those measurements prove too bold for you, then consider the Vanguard Crazy Hours Lady, a petite model with 32mm by 42.3mm proportions. Those with a penchant for the all things colourful will love the multi-hued numerals on this version. The unique sun-stamped lacquered dial also features hologram numbers—also in random positions, of course. For those who appreciate a more understated aesthetic, it comes in relatively low-key hues too.
