His and hers: A guide to our favourite couple watches

Couples that dress together, stay together? Long gone are the days where going matchy-matchy with your other half means dressing in the exact pieces head-to-toe. In this day and age, it’s possible to dress as a pair without looking corny.

One of the best ways to do so in our opinion? By donning couple watches. Subtle yet meaningful, a good timepiece—like your love—can last forever. While they’re not always sold as a set, many brands have his-and-hers watches in the same model, and regardless of your style, you’ll definitely be able to find a pair that both of you will love.

Rolex Datejust

The Rolex Datejust is an absolute icon. First introduced in 1945, the watch is one of the brand’s oldest collections that are still in production today, and the reason behind its popularity is simple. Classic in every sense of the word yet instantly recognisable, the timepiece is the perfect finishing touch for any outfit. While 2020 saw four new designs that feature an array of coloured dials, the two-tone Datejust—in Oystersteel and yellow gold—remains our top pick.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso

Did you know that Jaeger-LeCoultre’s iconic Reverso turns 90 this year? Originally created for polo players who could keep their timepiece on during their matches by flipping the case, the rectangular wristwatch has become synonymous with the brand. The Art Deco design is also what makes it so well-loved ’til this day. The black leather strap and the pink-gold case are one of our favourite combos on the Reverso Classic, though the men’s version also comes with a small seconds sub-dial.

Audemars Piguet Code 11.59

We know it’s impossible to mention Audemars Piguet without thinking of the Royal Oak, but the Code 11.59 is worthy of a mention too. Launched just over two years ago, the timepiece features an octagonal middle case within a round case, and self-winding date, hour, minute, and second movements. Its recent additions—especially the burgundy dial with white gold hands—will be a hit with anyone. Take your pick from the chronograph or the time-and-date version.

Ballon Bleu de Cartier

Introduced in 2007, the Ballon Bleu de Cartier watch has quickly risen through the ranks to become one of the brand’s best-selling design. Kate Middleton and Johnny Depp were two of the It-listers who have been spotted wearing one throughout the years. The watch is more than just a circle though—the double convex bezel and caseback create a voluminous round shape that ensure style and comfort. Below are the 36mm and 28mm sizes in steel.

Omega Constellation

The Speedmaster may be Omega’s most talked-about timepiece, but the Constellation—launched less than a decade before—is well-loved by both men and women. The collection has received multiple facelifts throughout the years, but the 1982 Constellation Manhattan is the one that we’re familiar with today. Sleek and timeless, the wristwatch is identifiable via the two claws on each side of the case, the mono-rang bracelet, as well as the bezel with Roman numerals. This particular colourway—with a silk-embossed rhodium-grey dial and 18-karat Sedna gold details—is not to be missed.

Hublot Spirit of Big Bang

For those of you who are lovers of all things bright and bold, Hublot’s the brand you can always turn to. Following the release of the Big Bang King Gold Rainbow, the Spirit of Big Bang collection also followed suit, pavéd with sparkly round and baguette-cut gemstones. While the men’s iteration features a chronograph skeleton movement, the women’s design is fully covered in colourful gems. If this doesn’t uplift your mood, we don’t know what will.

Chopard Alpine Eagle

Chopard’s Alpine Eagle was a re-edition of the iconic St. Moritz line, and its sporty-chic design has always been a standout favourite. Last October, the brand introduced the Alpine Eagle XL Chrono, its first flyback chronograph in the collection, and the design is available in three variations. The Lucent Steel A223 watch in 44mm below is one of them. The women’s version—in Small—is 36mm with diamonds.
