February 1 marks the beginning of the Chinese Lunar Year of the Water Tiger, a resolutely optimistic zodiac sign that represents courage and strength. As such, the year ahead is one of major changes and plenty of excitement, and what better way to keep track of the time than with a special-edition accessory rife with symbolic meaning?

Chopard L.U.C XP Urushi Year of the Tiger

Chopard continues their annual zodiac tradition and tribute to the art of Urushi with an 88-piece limited edition L.U.C XP Urushi Year of the Tiger timepiece for Chinese New Year. Housed in an ultra-thin ethical 18k rose gold case, the highly symbolic watch features a tiger flaunting its strength, perched above a bay surrounded by cliffs against a starlit, gold-sprinkled background. Once again, each dial was entrusted to the master lacquer artist Minori Koizumi of the century-old Yamada Heiando Imperial lacquerware workshops.

For Piaget’s ultra-thin Altiplano zodiac timepiece, renowned enamel artist Anita Porchet has depicted the majestic tiger in cloisonne grand feu enamel on the dial that’s housed in a 38mm white gold case. Crafted using the 4,000 year old art of cloisonne, which involves transferring designs onto the surface using thin gold wires to create tiny partitions, the display is on that will keep its sense of grandeur for years to come.
