Bottega Veneta’s golden hour

When Tomas Maier decided to bring the 60s and 70s back to Bottega Veneta’s A/W 2015-16 collection, all eyes were entranced upon the multitude of graphic prints and fall hues of violet, teal and russet rust. The collection came together in a quirky, eclectic way that made sense, with a touch of luxe appeal. But what we were enamoured with was a pair of gold foil low-heeled, square-toed penny loafers that brought a whole new meaning to Dorothy of Oz’s ruby slippers—but the gold version instead. With diamond and triangular-shaped stone embellishments and geometrically uneven collars, this statement pair of loafers was a much-welcomed change (and a far cry) from the brand’s typically nonchalant and straightforward footwear offerings.
