Many Malaysians would know of Resorts World Awana, previously known as Awana Genting Highlands Golf & Country Resort, for its long-standing history in Malaysia’s hospitality scene. Since its inception 37 years ago, the resort has welcomed families, corporate groups, golf enthusiasts and nature-loving travellers alike for a calming respite at 3,100 ft above sea level.

Today, the resort continues to build on its legacy with newly refurbished rooms and offerings that allow guests to immerse in the natural beauty of the surrounding tropical rainforest and cool highlands. Coupled with its accessible location that’s just 35 minutes away from Kuala Lumpur, it’s an ideal destination for a quick staycation.

Whether it’s your first, second or umpteenth visit to Resorts World Awana, we’ve rounded up seven new updates and attractions you can look forward to at the resort.

1. Stay at the refurbished rooms and suites

Yes, you can now spend a night or more in newly renovated rooms and suites at Resorts World Awana! Couples can choose from either the Club Suite Room (420 square feet) or Executive Suite Room (580 square feet), which come with a sofa bed and dining table accommodating two guests. Families or groups of four can opt for the Villa Room, affording 950 square feet of space with a separate living space, dining table, kitchenette, and balcony. The superior deluxe room can also accommodate a family of four with two queen beds.

2. Enjoy a farm-to-table meal at Awana Garden

Hot pot fans, don’t miss out on a meal at Awana Garden. Adopting a farm-to-table concept, the restaurant sources its vegetables fresh from the Atrium Greenhouse located within the resort itself. It also incorporates ingredients gleaned from the forest trails of Awana, such as wild tongkat ali—a traditional Malaysian herb known for its energising and anti-ageing properties. Plus, the Curry Laksa is a must-try broth here! Aside from its unique hot pot bases, Awana Garden also serves comfort Malaysian food.

3. Experience a tropical daydream at Ayu Awana

Ayu Awana is another hotspot that will transport you into an outdoor oasis set amidst the lush rainforests of Genting Highlands. This Instagram-worthy restaurant and poolside lounge offers a special smokehouse and grill menu, regional dishes, healthy delights, and a wide range of cocktails to indulge you over sun-kissed afternoons and moonlit dinners. Hotel guests can also take a dip in the heated pool! Alternatively, come for the poolside brunch and savour flame-grilled meats, vegetables and seafood cooked on demand over a barbecue pit. Featuring specially curated signature recipes by the in-house executive chef, guests will be in for a delightful meal by the pool!

From now until 30 September 2023, guests can also enjoy 37 per cent off on The Ayu Awana Brunch Club (valid for the brunch experience only) by online purchase.

4. Eat to your heart’s content at Jom Makan Awana

If you’re amongst picky eaters, we know it can be difficult to choose the right place to eat. At Jom Makan Awana, you’ll be spoilt for choice with an extensive selection of halal-certified, continental and Asian cuisine. Inspired by the marketplace, the bazaar dining concept has something for everyone, prepared fresh from its live cooking stations. Take your pick from local favourites such as Nasi Lemak Pandan and Fried Kuey Teow, to made-to-order roti served with dhal curry, coconut chutney and kesari

5. Spend quality time at the resort’s facilities

With the array of facilities across Resorts World Awana, there’s never a dull day at the resort. Guests can have a splash at the outdoor heated pool, have a tee off at the 18-hole golf course, workout in the state-of-the-art gym (instructor-led classes are available on weekends), sit back and enjoy movie night, play board games or head to the arcade, join a cooking class, and even adopt a plant from Awana Garden’s Atrium. If you’re up for a challenge, you can even sign up for the resort’s Inflatable Fun Activities—S.A.F.E Archery and Human Zorb Ball—available in one thrilling package!

Plus, there’s a plethora of kid-friendly Back to Nature activities. Young chefs can embark on a culinary adventure with Little Baker—a hands-on experience that allows children to learn the art of baking as they mix, knead, and shape their own delicious treats under the guidance of an instructor. With Stingless Bee Honey Harvesting, little ones will get to learn about stingless bees, their behavior, and their role in pollination in a safe, natural environment. Then there’s Nature’s Little Planters, which offers a hands-on gardening experience with helpful tips that will promote a deeper knowledge and appreciation for plants.

6. Bask in nature with Genting Nature Adventures

Nature lovers have even more to be excited about with Genting Nature Adventures, where participants can experience one of the world’s oldest and biodiverse tropical rainforests at 3,000 to 6,000 feet above sea level. There’s the Awana Trail, where you can walk, jog and keep up with your active goals as you get acquainted with the resident Siamangs, tropical birds, insects, endangered highland pitcher plants, and other wildlife.

7. Grab a cuppa from Cheeky Grind

Can’t go a day without coffee? You don’t have to sacrifice your daily caffeine intake thanks to Cheeky Grind, where you’ll find small-batch, artisanal blended coffee and pastries. Fun fact: the cafe is named after the playful resident gibbons of the neighboring rainforests. Reflecting its moniker, Cheeky Grind turns into a lively evening destination after sundown, serving refreshing beverages on top of craft coffee.

After fuelling up, you can head on over to Genting Highlands Premium Outlets which is just 10 minutes away to shop until you drop! From there, simply take the Awana Skyway up to Resorts World Genting for even more shopping, dining and entertainment.
