Hotel review: Finding Calm and Serenity at SAii Laguna Phuket

Set along the shores of Bang Tao Beach, SAii Laguna Phuket sits within the well-established Laguna Phuket complex, a destination long known for its expansive beachfront, interconnected lagoons, and thoughtfully planned resort living. Formerly part of one of Phuket’s most iconic resort lineages, the property has since evolved into SAii’s modern interpretation of island hospitality, one that blends contemporary comfort with a deep respect for its natural surroundings. With direct beach access, sweeping sea views, and an open, calming design that allows nature to take centre stage, the resort feels grounded rather than grand.

I did not arrive looking for spectacle. What I wanted, perhaps without fully realising it, was a pause. Somewhere that did not demand constant movement or endless itineraries. Somewhere that allowed the days to unfold slowly, without explanation. From the moment I arrived, I felt the pace change. The lobby opens out towards the sea, and the air carries that familiar mix of salt and warmth that signals you have arrived somewhere softer. Bang Tao Beach stretched out ahead, calm and unassuming, and for the first time in a while, I did not feel the need to rush.

A Room That Encouraged Stillness

My room felt less like a hotel room and more like a personal retreat. Spacious, light-filled, and deliberately simple, it invited rest rather than distraction. The colour palette echoed the surroundings, soft blues and sandy neutrals, and the balcony quickly became my favourite place to end the day.

What quietly elevated the experience was how effortless everything felt. Early on, I downloaded the SAii Laguna app, and from that point onwards, the stay unfolded with remarkable ease. From the comfort of my room, I could place room service orders, contact housekeeping for amenities, browse the hotel’s offerings, and make reservations seamlessly.

It removed the usual friction that comes with hotel stays and allowed me to remain present rather than logistical. Some evenings, I ordered dinner in simply because I could, letting it arrive while I stayed curled up on the daybed, balcony doors open, lagoon air drifting in. Convenience here did not feel transactional, it felt thoughtful.

Meals Worth Lingering Over

Food at SAii Laguna Phuket became part of the rhythm of my stay, unhurried, comforting, and deeply connected to the place.

Mornings often began at Laguna Café, where breakfast unfolded slowly. Fresh tropical fruit, jasmine rice porridge gently scented with ginger, and well-brewed coffee set the tone for the day. On certain mornings, I lingered longer than planned over eggs benedict, watching the light shift across the water.

Lunch was often at Tida Beach Club, usually after a long walk along Bang Tao Beach. Sitting by the sea, I enjoyed a perfectly grilled seabass with lime and herbs, bright, clean flavours that felt exactly right in that moment.

Evenings led me to TAI Restaurant, where Thai classics are served with quiet confidence. The Massaman curry was deeply comforting, rich without being heavy, while the tom yum, fragrant and assertive, quickly became a favourite. Meals here never felt rushed, instead they felt like a natural continuation of the day.

An Afternoon at Rava Beach Club

One afternoon, I took advantage of SAii Laguna Phuket’s complimentary shuttle and headed out to Rava Beach Club, a breezy beachfront spot within the Laguna Phuket area. The journey itself was effortless, quick, comfortable, and seamlessly arranged, making it easy to explore beyond the resort without disrupting the pace of the day.

Lunch at Rava unfolded slowly. I settled into the afternoon with light, flavourful dishes and refreshing drinks, the kind best enjoyed with sand nearby and nowhere else to be. There was a relaxed, social energy to the space, balanced by the ease of knowing I could return to the calm of SAii Laguna just as effortlessly when the sun dipped lower.

A Moment of Complete Restoration

One afternoon, I stepped into the SAii Spa, feeling ready to surrender completely to stillness. The environment itself felt luxuriously calm, softly lit, private, and intentionally serene.

I chose a full-body massage, and from the moment the treatment began, everything else seemed to fall away. The experience was unhurried and deeply grounding, balancing skilled technique with intuitive care. There was nothing showy about it, just a quiet confidence that allowed the body to fully let go.

When I emerged, I felt unmistakably restored. Not just relaxed, but reset, lighter, clearer, and fully present. It was one of those rare moments where time feels suspended and you realise how much your body has been holding onto without you noticing.

Moving with Intention

Wellness at SAii Laguna Phuket extended beyond rest, it was also about gentle, intentional movement. On certain mornings, I found myself drawn to the gym, light-filled and calm, where exercise felt less like a routine and more like a way to ease into the day. Even a short workout felt grounding rather than demanding, especially when followed by time to stretch and cool down.

One afternoon, I spent time at the tennis courts, surrounded by greenery and open sky. There was something unexpectedly restorative about it, the rhythm of movement, the focus it required, the way it anchored me firmly in the present. These moments of activity never felt at odds with the stillness of the resort. Instead, they complemented it.

Being part of the wider Laguna Phuket ecosystem also meant wellness extended beyond the resort itself, with walkable pathways, open spaces, and a sense of continuity that encouraged movement throughout the day. By the end of each session, I felt energised yet calm, aligned rather than exhausted.

Getting to Saii Laguna Phuket

For travellers coming from Kuala Lumpur, reaching SAii Laguna Phuket is refreshingly straightforward. With direct flights available from Kuala Lumpur to Phuket International Airport, the journey takes just over an hour and a half. From the airport, the resort is approximately a 30-minute drive (with airport transfers easily arranged with the resort), making it an easy transition from city pace to beachfront calm.
