Tick Tock Tech Talk: How the Panasonic JZ2000 TV brings Hollywood into your home

I don’t know about you, but Netflix and Disney+ were instrumental in keeping my sanity intact throughout the lockdown periods. What I would do without Friends (read: the most popular American sitcom ever) or the various crime documentaries and dramas I’ve binge-watched to pass time beats me (Squid Game, Tinder Swindler, and Inventing Anna are a few off the top of my mind).

While cinemas have been back in business for a while now, video streaming apps have made it much more convenient to catch up on the latest shows (or rewatch classics) at the comfort of home. And what better way to watch them than on a 65-inch TV in your comfiest pair of pyjamas? The particular TV I’m referring to is none other than the Panasonic JZ2000, the latest flagship 4K OLED TV from the Japanese tech brand.

Watch my 60-second summary of the Panasonic JZ2000 in the video below or read on to find out more about its features.

DESIGN

At 65 inches and 28kg, the Panasonic JZ2000 is massive. But I’d argue that it’s a brilliant use of space. Slim and sleek with thin bezels and a speaker grille under the screen, it exudes elegance and fits perfectly in modern homes. It comes with a swivel stand out of the box, which can be a turning point (pun intended) in situations where you may want to watch TV from a different angle, like your favourite couch that’s located in a cosy corner of the room or from the adjacent kitchen.

DISPLAY

One of the most important features in providing a home cinematic experience is the display. To ensure its TVs are at the top of its class, Panasonic has been working closely with Stefan Sonnenfeld, the founder and CEO of post-production house Company 3, to match the technical accuracy of the brand’s award-winning OLED TVs to the filmmaker’s creative intent.

For context, Sonnenfeld is among Hollywood’s leading colourists who have championed the power of colour grading to tell stories and communicate emotion, lending his vision to films including Star Wars: The Force Awakens, A Star is Born, and Crazy Rich Asians. In order to reproduce the same colours—and therefore, the intended “mood” of a film—Sonnenfeld and other professional colourists use Panasonic OLED TVs as the ‘Client Monitor’ to ensure the picture quality can be reflected on home TVs. Since 2017 until today, several hundreds of Panasonic OLED TVs have been tuned in Hollywood studios, including Netflix, Universal, Walt Disney, and more.

So, that’s how Panasonic OLED TVs bring Hollywood to your home.

The Panasonic JZ2000 is no different, thanks to its Master HDR OLED Professional Edition panel, which features 8 million pixels backed by a self-illuminating system. This delivers bright, high-contrast details with rich, deep blacks that have been optimised by Sonnenfeld.

Powered by the HCX Pro AI Processor, it’s able to instantly analyse and adjust the settings for different scenes. Whether you’re watching sports, a movie, or playing a video game on the TV, it delivers crisp, stunning detail. The JZ2000 also supports multi HDR format—including Dolby Vision, HLG, HDR10, and HDR10+ Adaptive—to deliver the best viewing experience, regardless of picture source. What’s more, Dolby Vision IQ optimises the picture according to the lighting in the room, so you can enjoy all these features day or night.

SOUND

While the display is key to offering cinematic visuals, the JZ2000’s audio performance is far from an afterthought. It features the 360-degree Soundscape Pro with Dolby Atmos to deliver 3D surround sound from both upward-firing and side-firing speakers, making up a total of seven channels. Each speaker is enhanced with proprietary technologies for balanced and refined sound, backed by a built-in woofer.

Just imagine being transported from your seat into the heart of the action—be it an explosive scene in an action movie or a jump scare in a horror film. No need for soundbars with these knockout speakers.

CONNECTIVITY

With My Home Screen 6.0, the JZ2000 is one of Panasonic’s most intuitive Android TVs so far. The remote that comes with the TV might take some getting used to because of all the options it offers, but once you’re accustomed to it, convenience is at the tip of your fingers. You can access all the top video streaming platforms like Netflix, YouTube and Amazon Prime Video with the press of a button or pin your favourite apps on your home screen to easily navigate between them. There’s also a voice assistant button that works with Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa, depending on your preference.

In terms of terminals, it comes with three USB ports and four HDMI ports—with two inputs supporting both 4K/120Hz video and VRR (variable refresh rate) and all four support ALLM (auto-low latency mode) for minimal-lag gaming.

All in all, the Panasonic JZ2000 is a powerhouse Android TV boasting premium design, class-leading colour and clarity, and an immersive audio experience that any cinephile or TV junkie will want in their home cinema.

The Panasonic JZ2000 is priced at RM16,999 and is available for purchase at the Panasonic Malaysia Online Store and all  authorised online and offline retailers. For more information, visit the official website.
