From Matcha to Art: What to Eat, Drink, and See at The Pocket, KL

Kuala Lumpur is full of little spots where you can slow down, eat, drink, and stumble across something unexpected. From REXKL in Chinatown to APW in Bangsar, these hangouts are more than just places to grab a bite—they reveal a different side of the city. And now, there’s a new spot to add to the list: The Pocket.

Opened just last year, The Pocket is tucked behind the shoplots along Jalan Sungai Besi. It’s easy to miss at first, but behind its raw, industrial exterior lies a lively mix of eateries and independent shops. Small, yes, but every corner has something worth exploring. From rich matcha drinks to playful local pastries, here are five ways to make the most of your time at The Pocket.

1. Grab a matcha drink at Looozer

Looozer is a calm little corner for matcha fans. Founded by Johnson and Jaclyn, the menu covers the classics like Matcha Latte alongside playful twists such as Strawberry and Blueberry Matcha. Hojicha fans aren’t forgotten, with flavours like Black Sesame and Osmanthus. And for something a bit extra, the Matcha Coconut Cloud or Hojicha Coconut Cloud is a delight for the taste buds.

Scrappy Dough makes your baked favourites feel a little more adventurous. Bagels get bold Asian flavours, from Kam Heong Chicken to Sambal Prawn, while sweet treats don’t hold back either. Cempedak cake uses real fruit for a tropical kick, and Pandan Gula Melaka muffins are perfectly sweet and fragrant. Every bite is a little adventure.

Known for its Taman OUG branch at Absorb Sunlight, Ramen Monster has brought its bowls to The Pocket, now with an expanded menu. The OG Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen is a must, with rich pork bone and shoyu broth accented by delicate katsuobushi. Another favourite is the Gyokai Chicki Shoyu Ramen, a double broth of chicken and seafood with dried scallops, clams, squid, and kombu for a rich umami punch.

At Cstone, nature isn’t far away—it’s bottled in every scent.  Their mists capture the smell of a forest after rain, from damp gardens to lush island greenery. The hand creams, body washes, and lotions carry the same fresh, uplifting scents, making it easy to take a little nature with you wherever you go.
