The Oscars 2017: ‘Moonlight’ beats ‘La La Land’ to win Best Picture
The 89th Academy Awards

In what will probably go down as one of the most bizarre moments in Oscars history, presenter Faye Dunaway mistakenly announced La La Land as the winner of Best Picture award. The La La Land team were already onstage giving thanks when the mistake was realised and Moonlight was clarified as the real winner. The confusion happened because Dunaway’s co-presenter Warren Beatty was given the wrong envelope.
Nonetheless, it was still a great night for La La Land as they bagged six Oscars, including Best Actress for Emma Stone. Damien Chazelle also became the youngest filmmaker to win a Best Director Oscar at the age of 32. Meanwhile, the poignant and critically acclaimed Moonlight took home three awards.
