What to see, eat and do at Le French Festival 2018

From 12 April to 20 May 2018, Le French Festival will be travelling nationwide across four cities—Kuala Lumpur, Georgetown, Johor Bahru and Kota Kinabalu—with an exciting lineup of events that includes film screenings, gigs, exhibitions, foodie gatherings, theatre shows and more.

WHAT TO SEE

French Film Festival: As per tradition, Le French Festival partners with Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) to present the French Film Festival. From satirical comedies to heartwarming dramas, give your usual Hollywood blockbusters a break and pick from one of the 16 recent French cinema releases for movie night instead.

In selected GSC cinemas. See the full schedule here

Amok: Catch the exclusive French theatre adaptation of Stefan Zweig’s novel set in Malaysia about a feverish tale of a race against death where passion mingles with madness.

4 & 5 May at Damansara Performing Arts Center (DPAC). For ticketing and more information, visit the website.

Once Upon a Time Tomorrow: Artist Chris Morin-Eitner is known for his unique “photo-paintings” that feature eye-catching superimpositions of renown city landmarks. Next up for him, Kuala Lumpur. Perhaps we’ll see the twin towers in his whimsical world?

20 April – 6 May at Sutra Foundation. Open everyday from 10am to 6pm. Admission is free.

WHAT TO EAT & DRINK

Cognac and champagne tasting: With champagne from GH. Mumm and Perrier-Jouet, as well as Martell cognacs in the tasting lineup, rest assured you’ll be in for an exquisite evening with the finest wines and spirits as accompaniment. A local brand ambassador will be at hand to teach you how to highlight the richness of their aromas, when to best serve them and many other useful pieces of advice for your future refined receptions.

24 April at Maibar, Aloft KL Sentral. RM70 per person. Get your tickets here.

Ciné-Diner: Enjoy the best of cinema and gastronomy at Nathalie Gourmet Studio. During the screening of Haute Cuisine (2012), Nathalie will be serving up delicious dishes based on the film, which follows Hortense’s life as the President’s personal chef in the Elysée Palace.

18 April at Nathalie Gourmet Studio, Publika. RM175 per person. E-mail [email protected] to reserve a spot.

WHAT TO DO

Learn to cook: Impressed by Nathalie’s impeccable French cuisine? Learn from the chef herself. There will be three different sessions for you to choose from: all you need to know about macaroons, how to make baguette bread and Parisian brioche, as well as a lesson on fresh pastas.

28 April at Nathalie Gourmet Studio, Publika. For class timing and prices, visit the website.

Let music heal your soul: There will also be a series of gigs and concerts in conjunction with the festival. Must-see acts include classical and jazz piano wonder duo Duo Jatekok at No Black Tie on 26 and 27 April, followed by rock trio Lysistrata at The Bee, Publika on 28 April.
