Kanye West’s first presidential campaign video is here

Harder, better, faster, stronger. These four words—from Kanye West‘s 2005 single ‘Stronger’—can probably resonate with this zeitgeist more than ever. 2020 has definitely been a wild ride (for obvious reasons) and here’s something special to add to the extensive list of bizarre events.

22 days before the United States general election (slated for 3 November 2020), Kanye West has released his first ever presidential campaign video—signaling his genuine intentions to run for for President. Dropping the video on Twitter to his 30.9 million followers, the rapper isn’t shy about running against candidates like Donald Trump and Joe Biden.

In the video, you can see Kanye West standing in front of a black and white American flag. Here, he goes: “What is America’s destiny? What is best for our nation? Our people? What is just? True justice? We have to think about all these things together as a people.”

The rapper and fashion designer continued by saying: “to contemplate our future, to live up to our dream, we must have vision. We as a people will revive our nation’s commitment to faith, to what our constitution calls the free exercise of religion, including, of course, prayer. Through prayer, faith can be restored.” In the campaign video, he urges voters to “write in Kanye West” on their ballots.

By only announcing his intention to run on 4 July 2020, Kanye West would not appear on ballots during the general election. However, he does qualify as an independent in 13 states. At the end of the video, he concluded with a formal line: “I am Kanye West and I approve this message.”

On Kanye West’s campaign website, you will also find a plethora of Kanye 2020 merchandises and 10 points from his presidential platform. What are your thoughts on the presidential campaign video and on Kanye West even running at all?
