How Grab buying over Uber will affect you—and what will happen to Uber Eats

We’ve all seen it coming. We’ve all heard about it. And now, it’s official. Grab has taken over Uber’s business in Southeast Asia for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition will see Uber owning a 27.5 percent stake in Grab, Uber’s CEO Dara Khosrowshahi joining the Grab board, and any Uber employees in the SEA operations will be offered employment in Grab. 

Essentially, there will be no layoffs and Uber drivers, as well as F&B partners on Uber Eats, will be promptly assisted in the migration. But how will it affect you, the passenger/customer? Read on as we round up the answers to all the questions you’re itching to ask. 

• The Uber service in Southeast Asia will continue to be available until 8 April 2018. 

• Your account information on Uber will be retained and you’ll still be able to use Uber in countries outside of Southeast Asia. 

• Fares will remain the same on the Grab platform.

• Uber Eats will be available until the end of May, which by then will be assimilated into GrabFood. You will, however, need to download the new app and sign up for a new account. 

• All F&B options will be available on the GrabFood platform with prices to remain the same.
