GWKL 2017: The city is in for an artful treat this December

Following its notable inauguration last year, Gallery Weekend Kuala Lumpur (GWKL) is set to return this 8 to 10 December with another exciting city-wide programme that spotlights the art scene in Malaysia. Founded and led by established gallerist Shalini Ganendra, GWKL will offer an in-depth exploration of the often under-exposed local art practice.

“Art is a powerful vehicle for engagement, understanding and resolution, at all levels,” says Shalini Ganendra. “GWKL is a celebration of this value, providing an excellent introduction to some of the best feature of Greater KL. The program is diverse, combining commercial, institutional and education in cultural context—all in aim to create a sustainable and informed platform for presenting Malaysian visual creative practices (art, design, architecture).”

Over the weekend, explore exhibitions and projects at some of KL’s best art galleries, including Shalini Ganendra Fine Art, Nadine Fine Art, Gallery Taksu and Rimbun Dahan. There will also be free curatorial tours at major art instutions like the Islamic Arts Museum, National Visual Arts Gallery and the National Textile Museum. A highlight for art enthusiasts will be the Luminary Program, where international luminaries in the industry will be in town to partake in curatorial conversations on art curation, design, instutional collecting and the likes.
