7 Things to do this weekend: 18 & 19 February 2023
Of art, workshops, and a good cause

It’s another weekend of merriment, and this time with an artsy twist! Many of the happenings we’ve listed for this weekend bring the local art scene to the spotlight while supporting a good cause, promising a fulfilling day out! Without further ado, here are seven things to add to your to-do list:

Where: PJ Performing Arts Centre, S611, Second Floor, 1 Utama Shopping Centre, Bandar Utama, 47800 Petaling Jaya, Selangor
Paging fans of horror and musicals, you have to check out Melur the Musical this weekend! The musical is inspired by Southeast Asia’s most terrifying legends and brought to you by the award-winning creators of Sepet the Musical, which retells the harrowing story of the Pontianak. Set in Colonial Malaya during the Malayan Emergency, it chronicles the lives of two women, Melur and Cempaka, bound by love and friendship but separated by conflicting values.

Admire the textile art pieces with your fellow art aficionados at the Kenyalang Circus exhibition. Translated from Malay to mean “Hornbill Circus”, it is the first solo exhibition by Sarawakian textile artist and graphic designer, Marcos Kueh, in his homeland. The exhibit is a personal project for him as it traces the faultline of heritage between inherited past and internalised exotification to the commercialisation of Borneo and Sarawak as “Malaysia’s exotic unknown.”
