Checking out ‘Women: New Portraits’ by Annie Leibovitz

With the current spotlight on Milan (see our Milan Fashion Week 2017 highlights here), there is another creative display taking place in this fashionable city. Over at the Fabbrica Orobia, Annie Leibovitz’s exhibition titled ‘Women: New Portraits’ is now showing until 2 October 2016.

The travelling exhibition is the continuation of the renowned photographer’s 1999 collaboration with the late writer/filmmaker Susan Sontag, in which the roles of women are explored through photographs.

Annie Leibovitz is famously known for her intimate portrayal of women from all walks of life through the lens of her camera. This year, she was chosen to record the portraits of the British royal family in conjunction with the 90th birthday of Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth.

For the exhibition, the new portraits, which were commissioned by financial company UBS, were unveiled in London earlier this year. From artists to musicians, CEOs, politicians, writers and philanthropists, the images reflect the changes in the roles of women today and their outstanding achievement.

The Annie Leibovitz’s Women: New Portraits exhibition will be moving on to Frankfurt, New York and Zurich next.
