Among the shortlisted entries include Zaha Hadid’s faceted glass structure for Antwerp’s Port Authority, a hotel in Ho Chi Minh City that is built around trees and a plant-covered concrete tower that changes its appearance according to the season in Tokyo’s Kyosai Plaza. From Malaysia, The Capers by RT+Q Architects is also shortlisted in the ‘Housing’ category while the Paragon @ Pan’gaea by Archipedia is in the ‘Mixed Use’ category and the Populous, KL Sports City, Stage 1 is nominated in the category of ‘New and Old’.

“This year’s shortlist has a hugely diverse geographic range. The use of water has been striking and there is evidence of real interest in climate modifications using novel techniques,” said WAF programme director, Paul Finch in a statement.

The winners of the World Building of the Year award will be announced during the World Architecture Festival 2017 that is scheduled to take place from 15-17 November.
