Meet the new BMW X5 xDrive45e M Sport—locally-assembled and ready to electrify

As one of the most prominent automakers in the world, it’s unsurprising that Malaysians look forward to new launches from BMW. This time, the German brand has launched the newest locally-assembled electrified mobility model from the BMW X range—the BMW X5 xDrive45e M Sport.

Over the years, BMW X5 has cemented a reputation as the most efficient and powerful premium Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) on the road—with 3,000 units delivered in 2019. That’s about 25 per cent of the BMW X range deliveries.

Here’s what you need to know about the BMW X5 xDrive 45e M Sport:

Performance

The new BMW X5 xDrive45e M Sport is powered by a three-litre six-cylinder engine complete with the BMW eDrive technology. Along with a top speed of 235 kilometres per hour, the variant has the ability to go from zero to 100 kilometres per hour in 5.6 seconds. On a full charge, the BMW X5 xDrive45e M Sport has an electrical driving range of up to 77 kilometres—with a top speed of 135 kilometres per hour.

A revised eight-speed Steptronic transmission with enhanced shift dynamics complements the engine. Via the all-wheel drive system, power is transmitted to all four wheels. To maximise dynamic ability and comfort, the BMW X5 xDrive45e M Sport is equipped with the two-axle air suspension on the front and rear axles.

Interior

In addition to Leather Vernasca upholstery, the BMW X5 xDrive45e M Sport also comes with M leather steering wheel, an electrically adjustable steering wheel, Sport front seats with memory function for the driver’s seat, four-zone automatic air conditioning, and the instrument panel in Sensatec. As for excellent music, the model has a 16-Speaker Harman Kardon surround sound system. Imagine driving on your next road trip with your favourite song playing.

Other features to note are the 12.3-inch Fully Digital Instrument Display, a large touchscreen Control Display, wireless charging, and a 10.2-inch touchscreen monitor for rear passengers.

Exterior

You will notice elements from the BMW X heritage on the new BMW X5 xDrive45e MM Sport. The new variant comes with larger proportions for increased space and comfort while maintaining familiar nuances of athleticism from the range’s legacy.

Updates to the latest model include slim Adaptive LED headlights with BMW Selective Beam and front LED fog lights that complement the signature bold kidney grille in front. Moreover, the signature M Sport brake and 20-inch M light alloy wheels in Star Spoke style 740 M Bicolour come with the M Sport package.

Features

Now that you’ve seen the inside and the outside, take a look at some of the key features of the new BMW X5 xDrive45e M Sport. They include the likes of Parking Assistant Plus with Surround View Camera, the Reversing Assistant, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Changing Warning, Frontal Collision Warning with braking intervention, Rear Crossing Traffic Warning, and Rear Collision Prevention.

The vehicle is also equipped with Intelligent Emergency Call, Teleservices, and eDrive services as part of BMW ConnectedDrive.

The new BMW X5 xDrive45e M Sport—priced at RM440,745—is available in Phytonic Blue, Black Sapphire, Mineral White, and Artic Grey. What are your thoughts on the new offering from BMW?
