Covid restrictions may have dampened your New Year’s Eve plans. Flights may have been canceled and trips postponed but worry not, we’ve got you covered on all the places to be this upcoming December 31st. Whether you’re looking for savoury meals with breathtaking views or just a night out with friends for a round of drinks, scroll through our list for all the suggestions you’ll need before we enter a new year. However, we do need to inform you that with current SOPs in place, restaurants and bars are set to close at 12am midnight as per CMCO regulations. Also, clubbing and dancing may be limited due to social distancing protocols but think about it this way—by this time next year, things will (hopefully) return to normal!
2020 was unorthodox, to say the least, and for a lack of a better term, it was a “hot mess” so why not say goodbye to it the best you can?
1. Troika Sky Dining
Troika is one of the spots to be this Thursday not just because of the views but because of its selection of five different-yet-tantalising restaurant selections. If you’re looking for a festive New Year’s Eve menu, try out Brasserie Fritz, where you can indulge in a hearty five-course meal (at RM320++ a person) which includes a seafood platter of oysters, mussels and scallops; a beautifully seasoned sea bass; and to top it off, chocolate and berries Charlotte Royale for dessert. For something a bit more upscale, Cantaloupe‘s New Year’s Eve menu has a salivating selection of foie gras, seaweed wrapped halibut and a beautiful pan-seared aged Wagyu A5 beef (at RM580++ per person).

2. Mantra Rooftop Bar and Lounge
Despite a refrain from their annual New Year’s Eve event, drinks will still be flowing at the Mantra Bar. Head over to Bangsar if you’re looking for the perfect place to watch the sunset while enjoying bespoke cocktails as well as an immersive night with good music and food. For the couples, plush cushions are available and for larger groups (capped to 15 pax), there are tables and various packages (which all include champagne) to choose from.

3. Sky51 at EQ
Sky 51 offers more than just breathtaking panoramic views of KL city. This year they have paired up with Veuve Clicquot for their “New Year’s Eve in the Sky” event. The collaboration sees yellow Veuve Clicquot pillows, a photo booth with outlines of glowing fireworks (that’s one way to make up for the lack of actual fireworks), cut-out stickers of fireworks, sparklers, a stilt walker and luminous sticks for everyone. At midnight, guests will be treated to an array of helium balloon explosions at the Sabayon. The entry fee is RM150 per adult and it’s only allowed for ages 18 years and older.

4. Vertigo at Banyan Tree
Banyan Tree KL is offering a delightful countdown experience. Stop by Horizon Grill for their New Year’s Eve brunch and then later, head over to Vertigo for a proper New Year’s Eve bash. The cover charges for the New Year’s Eve social menu ranges from RM100 nett per person to RM3,500 for six to eight pax. Vertigo offers a stunning backdrop of Kuala Lumpur and its more famed buildings, which definitely makes for a great photo opportunity.

5. W Hotel KL
For years, W Hotel KL was the place to be for music and dance lovers during New Year’s Eve. They would have a DJ, an amazing dance floor and of course, a beautiful backdrop featuring the Petronas Twin Towers. This time around, despite the lack of fireworks near KLCC, guests will still be privy to house music, strobe lights and that signature atmosphere we have all come to enjoy. The five-star hotel is also a place we’d recommend if you are choosing to enjoy a good party and crash out in one of their luxurious suites after midnight.

6. Vogue Lounge
The name gives it away. If you’re planning on having a chic, sleek and fashion-forward New Year’s Eve, the Vogue Lounge is the place to head to. Situated on the 38th floor of the Menara Suezcap, the Vogue Lounge has a gorgeous rooftop bar and an extensive wine collection. Their New Year’s Eve menu (priced at RM588++ per pax) is a fashion of Japanese and French cuisine. The courses include the Ohtoro Sashimi with Oscietre caviar, King Crab Royale, and French Lamb Saddle, which includes winter truffle potato crisps and Hijiki jus.
Availability: 5.30pm – 12am, 31 December 2020

7. Concubine KL
Concubine has become one of KL’s not-so-hidden secrets. It is inspired by an actual speakeasy (among other salacious things) dating back to the ’20s and ’30s. It’s situated in the heart of Chinatown with the wall murals and decor giving visitors the feeling of walking into a time capsule that encapsulates the area’s risqué past. You may go because of the buzz but you’ll stay because of the drinks, Their craft cocktails are “next level”. We’d recommend you try the Cold Brew Colada (priced at RM36) and the Paloma (priced at RM35) is a house favourite as well. When it comes to the New Year’s Eve plans, things will be scaled back at Concubine. However, we “may” have heard from sources that there might be a “faux countdown” happening at 11pm. Yes, SOPs will have to be followed accurately, and that includes the closing time. That being said, a large part of Concubine is outdoors so dress lightly, and think twice before putting on that evening jacket (you’ll thank us later).
Availability: 11.30am – 12am, 31 December 2020
Address: Lot 2, Jalan Panggong, City Centre, 50000 Kuala Lumpur

8. Santai Pool Bar and Lounge at The RuMa Hotel and Residences KL
Weather you’re looking for a quick nightcap or a meal, Santai provides the best of both worlds without putting a hole in your wallet. This year, Santai’s guest bartender and Martell Ambassador Jean-Baptisme Gourvil will be making a guest appearance. If you didn’t know, he’s the French guy who has perfected the art of “popping bottles” so fair warning, corks will be flying overhead. And if you wish to keep the party going, visit Santai again on New Year’s Day too and enjoy their Barbeque brunch (priced at RM150 per person) which has a selection of black Angus minute steak, pan seared Norwegian salmon and slow cooked lamb osso bucco.

9. Nobu Kuala Lumpur
The start of 2021 will see Nobu KL make the move from its current location, Menara 3 KLCC to Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur. Why not commemorate the restaurant’s six years at the iconic Menara 3 KLCC by dropping by for their final hurrah this New Year’s Eve? The restaurant, famed for its Japanese-meets-Peruvian cuisine, will be serving two year-end festive menus. For the 31st, we’d recommend the Nobu Kuala Lumpur Sake And Wine Pairing For Two (priced at RM988++ per person). This seven-course menu serves an Oyster And Foie Gras with Caviar as the starter, followed by the Hokusetsu Ginjo Nigori, Sushi Selection, and of course, the Nobu specialty, the pièce de résistance, the Smoked Japanese Wagyu Beef With Jalapeno Miso.
Availability: 11:45am–2pm, 6–10:30pm, 31 December 2020

10. Marini’s on 57
What better way to end 2020 than with one of Kuala Lumpur’s top, award-winning fine dining restaurants? At Marini’s on 57, you’ll get impressive views with delectable dishes and dynamic flavours. The New Year’s Eve menu offers an eight-course meal that starts off with a trio of tantalising items which include the Wagyu Beef Bresaola served with Parmesan brioche bread and tarragon mayonnaise, a Tuna Tartlet “Catalana style”, and Potato and Mushroom Cappuccino. Next, you’ll be served a colourful Lobster Carpaccio with basil béarnaise and caviar followed by tasty house-made Wagyu Beef Agnolotti with porcini mushrooms, chives and black truffle shavings. We can’t think of anything better than tucking into one of these salivating desserts, hours before midnight; the Strawberry Sorbet and Italian sponge cake with the essence of elderflower, and the Hazelnut Crémeux and sponge cake with vanilla gelato, truffle essence, truffle slices and gold dust. So dust off the problems of 2020 and welcome a “golden” 2021. The New Year’s Eve set dinner menu is available only on the 31st December 2020 and is priced at RM980++ per person for non-window seating, RM1,180++ per person for window seating.
