#BuroEats: 7 New cafes and restaurants in KL to visit for May 2019

1. Hotcake, Sri Petaling

Souffles and bubble teas seem to sell like hotcakes in KL these days but we doubt that’s the inspiration behind the name of this new cafe. Labelling their souffles as a Shanghai-style, Hotcake serves them with a variety of toppings but the real cherry on top is its bright and sunny interior. If Sri Petaling is a little out of the way for you, wait a little longer as they have plans to open another outlet in Damansara Uptown this month.

Address: 18, Jln Radin Bagus 8, Sri Petaling, 57000 Kuala Lumpur

Opening hours: 11am – 12pm, daily

2. Mich’sology, Damansara Uptown

Three things about this cafe that shout Instagram-worthy: Pink heart-shaped chairs, pink wallpapers and marble tables. The food and drinks are just as easy on the eyes and it’s a bonus that they’re healthy too! This offshoot even has a claw machine where you can get a token to play if you spend RM30 and above.

Address: No. 16, Jalan SS 21/35, Damansara Utama, 47400 Petaling Jaya

Opening hours: 10am – 10pm, daily

3. 2D Bubble Tea, Sunway Geo Avenue

Whatever you’re seeing in the photo above is what you’ll get when you step foot into this surreal bubble tea cafe. The most unbelievable part about this 2D cafe is that almost everything was painstakingly handpainted. Even the bottles for the bubble tea were handpainted so it blends into the comic book-like world of the cafe. Besides bubble tea, they also serve bento boxes, sandwiches, snacks and more.

Fun fact: The artist who painted everything previously worked for that viral unicorn cafe called La Fleur in the same area.

Address: F-03-10, Sunway Geo Avenue, Jalan Lagoon Selatan, Subang Jaya

Opening hours: 11am – 10pm (close on Weds)

4. Orale, Damansara Uptown

Oh, our fellow amigos whose hearts are with Mexican food. Orale serves a mean menu of burritos, tacos, quesadillas and nachos that aim to please. Its colourful interior and shopfront are really just bonuses.

Address: 28G, Jalan SS 21/58, Damansara Utama, 47400 Uptown

Opening hours:

12pm – 10pm, weekdays

10am – 10pm, weekends

5. What’s On Tap, Mont Kiara

There are three kinds of people. Those who love an explosion of colours. Those who love absolute minimalism. Those who either don’t really care or like a fine balance. If you’re in the second group and if you love your coffee, What’s On Tap is quite apt for you. The interior is in stark white with the slightest touches of cold steel and wood and when we first passed by it, we thought the place serves craft beers because of the taps. But no, it’s all coffee in a wide variety of brews, beans and forms. In fact, they’re rather experimental so it’s definitely worth a visit (or two); and if you’re going with friends who don’t drink coffee, there are other options too like the Iced Chocolate.

Address: B-G-05, Plaza Mont Kiara, Jalan Kiara, Mont Kiara, 50480 Kuala Lumpur

Opening hours:

8am – 7pm, weekdays

8am – 6pm, Saturday

9am – 5pm, Sunday

6. Cafe 5, Pudu

Looking for great waffles? Inside Scoop is a personal favourite but otherwise, we hear Cafe 5 does some pretty nice Belgian Liege ones too. You can even opt for the one with a chocolate fondue and scoops of handcrafted ice cream.

Address: Jalan Brunei Utara, No 5, Lengkungan Brunei, Pudu, 55100 Kuala Lumpur

Opening hours: 12pm – 10pm, daily

7. Creme de la Creme, Damansara Uptown

There’s a new spot in town that serves delicious artisanal ice cream with creative flavours that are both familiar and fresh. Their latest creation is inspired by the current boba trend but otherwise try some of the local inspired flavours such as the Barley Lime. Best of all, everything is made using natural ingredients—no artificial flavours, colourings and preservatives.

Address: 35G, Ground Floor, Jalan SS 21/60, Damansara Utama, 47400 Petaling Jaya

Opening hours:

12pm – 11pm, Sun – Thurs

12pm – 12am, Fri & Sat
