Two luxury worlds come together in Glenfiddich’s Gran Cortes 22 Year Old

The world’s most awarded single malt Scotch whisky, Glenfiddich, is known for pushing boundaries while maintaining quality. Now, the whisky house is once again introducing its bold expression, the Gran Cortes 22 Year Old. While its heritage and recipes are distinctly Scottish, the Gran Cortes is masterfully finished in rare Palo Cortado sherry casks, adding an element of sophistication and mystery to the final bottle. 

In the Glenfiddich’s Grand Series range of exceptional whiskies, the Gran Cortes follows the 2019 Grand Cru and takes its name from Spain’s grand palaces. THE BOLD ‘X’

Finished in the revered Palo Cortado sherry casks, this single malt whisky is one with immense character and intensity. The Spanish casks earned a name for themselves in the industry thanks to the complexities and rich fruity notes they add. The whisky goes through a one-of-a-kind transformation while within the cask’s walls, puzzling—and at the same time captivating—sherry makers for centuries now. Each cask is so special that it is hand-marked with an “X” denoting its alchemical nature.

 

A TASTE OF SOPHISTICATION

The Gran Cortes 22 Year Old is a bottle of mystery and mastery. If you’re one to enjoy rich, complex, and warm whiskies, the Gran Cortes is one you should have in your collection. It possesses a distinct and deep red hue and tastefully blends notes of dates, dark chocolate, and raisins on the nose. Some may even pick up on traces of figs, orange zest, and raisins. Meanwhile, on the palate, you’ll notice layers of oak, sweet vanilla, and marzipan as the influence of the Palo Cortado sherry casks come through in the form of luscious inflections of dried fruit. Finally, each sip finishes with subtle hints of citrus and fruit cake—a lasting impression is guaranteed. 

 

THE FINAL PRODUCT

“We were thrilled and very privileged to gain access to the Palo Cortado casks that make Gran Cortes such a unique whisky,” beams Glenfiddich Malt Master, Brian Kinsman, who worked with the family-owned sherry producers in southwest Spain during this process. “We experimented carefully to find the best maturation and finishing times, and hand-selected the right balance of 22-year-old Glenfiddich casks from our collection of old-age malts.

The final liquid is a truly exquisite whisky that brings the great European traditions of Scotch and sherry together for one unforgettable experience.” Once completed, each bottle is adorned with a rich red closure and is presented in a beautiful sherry-red display box, marked by a bold “X” as an ode to the Palo Cortado cask.
